Preparation, characterization and utilization of coreshell super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for curcumin delivery

Abstract: In this study, super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) were produced by chemical co-precipitation method, then it was constructed to be a core shell nanoparticle by functionalizing with SDS, loading with curcumin and coating with a biopolymer i.e. chitosan. Each step was analyzed microscopically and spectroscopically. The produced coreshell particles were between 40 and 45nm and these coreshell particles were utilized for drug delivery studies against cervical cancer cell line—HeLa cells. The core… Show more

“…9). Particles with value between − 30 and + 30 mV are stable [17]. The value obtained for SPIONs in this study did not fall in between the desired range, it could be interpreted that the SPIONs were mildly unstable and there might be chances of slight agglomeration [33,34].…”

“…Usually, in chemical synthesis, the iron precursors are mixed together and reduced using a reducing agent like NaOH, TMAOH (tetramethylammonium hydroxide), NH 3 , etc. [17,18]. Use of such chemicals in the synthesis of nanoparticles may be one of the many reasons for high toxicity of ironoxide nanoparticles towards the environment [19].…”

“…Polysaccharides can be used as nanocarrier to carry drugs, which is possible when the polysaccharides are carboxymethylated and chelated with an appropriate chelator like STMP (sodium tri metaphosphate), STPP (sodium tripolyphosphate) etc , Samrot et al 2018a, Shobana et al 2019. These polysaccharide nanocarriers have attracted attention of various researchers in the field of medical field for drug delivery and drug encapsulation (Justin et al 2017, Justin et al 2018, Sruthi et al 2019. This is mainly because particles at smaller size exhibits wide range of properties than the bulk material.…”

“…Nanotechnology is a blooming field of science and has variety of applications in the field of science (Kreuter et al 2003). Applications of nanoparticles in various fields include agriculture, drug delivery (Samrot et al 2019a), imaging , Justin et al 2018, Sruthi et al 2018, Samrot et al 2018a, mosquito larvicidal activity (Samrot et al 2019b), environmental remediation (Samrot et al 2019c), bioactivity including anticancer and antibacterial activity (Samrot et al 2016, Samrot et al 2018b, Samrot et al 2019a. The increased usage creates demand in the production alleviating the risks associated with improper disposal of metal nanoparticles.…”
