Preparation and thermal properties of polyethylene terephthalate/huntite–hydromagnesite composites

Abstract: In this report, it was aimed to the improve thermal stability of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by adding huntite/hydromagnesite minerale. PET/huntite/hydromagnesite composites were prepared by adding various proportions of huntite/hydromagnesite to PET. The chemical structures of the composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Thermal properties of the composites were determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential sca… Show more

“…It is mostly found in nature as a mixture of hydromagnesite and while the chemical formula of huntite is Mg 3 Ca(CO 3 ) 4 , the chemical formula of hydromagnesite is Mg 5 (CO 3 ) 4 (OH) 2 ·4H 2 O. Because of its thermal behavior, huntite mineral is widely used as a flame retardant [ 15 17 ]. Many composite studies are carried out by using huntite as an additive.…”
