Preparation and Properties of PHEA/Chitosan Composite Hydrogel

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Biodegradable hydrogels based on synthetic PHEA and IPN type composite hydrogel with chitosan, a natural carbohydrate polymer, were prepared by crosslinking using glutaraldehyde in aqueous mixture. Relatively strong hydrogels were formed in a shaped mold. Preparation of crosslinked gels and their swelling behavior depending on the composition, medium, and pH of solution are investigated. The porous morphology of scaffolds, obtained by freeze-drying method, was observed by scanning electron microscopy.… Show more

“…The cytotoxicity test of samples were done according to ISO 10993-5. The L929 cells [32] are commonly used model cell type for studying cytotoxic effect of samples. L929 cells were cultured in minimum essential medium (MEM) supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS), 50 IU ml −1 penicillin, 50 g ml −1 streptomycin (Invitrogen, CA, USA) at 37 • C in a humidified 5% CO 2 atmosphere.…”

“…To overcome this shortcoming, biodegradable hydrogels were then proposed in more recent years 3, 15. But the reports on potentially applicable hydrogels as drug delivery system with both intelligence and biodegradability as well as other necessary characteristics are still rather limited 21–25. In this work, we prepared a new kind of biodegradable and pH‐responsive P(CL‐MAA‐EG) hydrogel from polycaprolactone, methacrylic acid, and poly(ethylene glycol).…”
