Preparation and Characterizations of Solvent Soluble Dyes Based on Dimerized Diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole Pigment

Abstract: We have prepared three pigments and six soluble dyes with thermal stability derived from diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole (DPP) pigment by N-alkylation and dimerization. Synthesized dyes and pigments were measured by an absorption maximum (λ max ) and thermal stability using a UV-VIS spectrophotometer and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) respectively, comparing with C.I. Pigment Red 254. These dyes exhibited superior solubility to the organic solvents by introducing the linking group (n-octyl). DPP pigments have inferio… Show more

“…In addition, improved thermal and solvent stability in industrial solvents such as propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA) must be realized for these dyes to be used in dye-based color filters [ 2 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]. If dyes are not stable in common industrial solvents such as PGMEA, then their application in color filters will be difficult [ 9 , 10 , 11 ]. Therefore, it is necessary to develop dyes with good thermal and solvent stability [ 10 , 11 ].…”
