Objective: Parang romang (Boehmeria virgata) is one of the traditional medicines that are used empirically by Makassar tribal healers, South Sulawesi, as an antitumor drug. This traditional medicine contains secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. However, secondary metabolites of those leaves extract have low solubility in water. Hence, to be formula, self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) is one of the solutions to increase the extract solubility. Methods: The optimization of two formula optimum SNEDDS parang romang leaves (T80PGMZ and T20PGMZ) was using the simple lattice design (SLD) method which will give 28 SNEDDS formula parang romang leaves each of which the formula is tested for its characteristics as a critical point include emulsification time, % transmittance, drug loading, particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, and morphology particle. Results: The results of SNEDDS characterization obtained the optimum formula T80PGMZ with emulsification time 12.6 s, % transmittance 92.21%, drug loading 68.21 ppm, particle size 370.26 nm, zeta potential −31.4 mV, polydispersity index of 0.615, and regular particle morphology with spherical chunks at a magnification of 10,000 times with a particle size of 10 μm. Conclusion: SNEDDS of parang romang leaves extracts that used olive oil as oil phase, Tween 80 as a surfactant, and propylene glycol as the cosurfactant provided nanoemulsion with good characteristics.

Pemanfaatan tanaman obat sebagai terapi pengobatan memiliki hambatan untuk sampai ke target aksi karena rendahnya kelarutan dan bioavaibilitas zat aktif dalam air. Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS) merupakan salah satu metode yang dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan kelarutan dan bioavaibilitas zat aktif termasuk ekstrak dari tanaman. Studi literatur ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji formula SNEDDS yang memanfaatkan tanaman obat dengan mengulas informasi yang dikumpulkan dari original article yang relevan. Penelusuran referensi dilakukan pada website seperti Google Scholar, Pub-Med dan ScienceDirect. Beberapa tanaman obat yang diformulasikan menjadi sediaan SNEDDS yaitu sirsak, grapefruits, beetroot, kunyit, propolis, daun salam, sarang semut, daun papaya, buah parijoto, pegagan, temulawak, kelor, ketepeng dan manggis menghasilkan karakteristik yang baik. Sediaan SNEDDS dari tanaman herbal tersebut memiliki nilai transmitan dari rentang 72,74% hingga 100%, waktu emulsifikasi pada sediaan kurang dari 5 menit, zeta potensial -0,2 mV hingga -56 mV. Nilai polydispersity index kurang dari 0,4 dan ukuran partikel yang kurang dari 100 nm. SNEDDS memiliki kemampuan untuk memperbaiki bioavaibilitas dan kelarutan dari senyawa sehingga menghasilkan aktivitas farmakologis yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan pemberian ekstrak, fraksi maupun senyawa aktif yang tanpa menggunakan sistem penghantaran. Kemampuan SNEDDS dalam meningkatkan bioavaibilitas serta kelarutan senyawa dalam air yang menyebabkan aktivitas farmakologis menjadi semakin tinggi. Formulasi SNEDDS dapat meningkatkan aktivitas senyawa pada tanaman obat hal ini ditandai dengan peningkatan bioavaibilitas obat sehingga SNEDDS dapat menjadi alternatif untuk meningkatkan efisiensi penyembuhan suatu penyakit

Traditionally, Senna Alata (L.) Roxb (Ketepeng Cina) has been used as an alternative medicine for typhus, diabetes, malaria, herpes, eczema, asthma, stomach ulcers, syphilis, influenza, bronchitis, intestinal worms, fungal skin diseases such as tinea versicolor, ringworm and scabies. The study's objective was to determine the active compounds, antioxidant potency and antifungal activity of Senna Alata (L.) Roxb leaves extract. Samples were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol, ethyl acetate and N-hexane as solvents. Phytochemical analysis used the Harbone method, antioxidant testing using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method and antifungal testing using the agar diffusion method. Phytochemical results proved that all Senna Alata (L.) Roxb leaves extract contained alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, glycosides. While the antioxidant test stated that ethanol and ethyl acetate solvents had solid antioxidant potential with the Inhibition Concentration (IC50) values obtained were 66.01 ppm and 78.23 ppm respectively. While the solvent N-hexane has a moderate antioxidant potential, the IC50 value obtained is 138.80 ppm. The diameter inhibition zones of ethanol, ethyl acetate, and N-hexane extracts against the Candida albicans were 8.66 mm, 10.22 mm and 8.84 mm, respectively. Cryptococcus neoformans was only inhibited by ethyl acetate and N-hexane Senna Alata (L.) Roxb leaves extracts with diameter inhibition zones of 4.84 mm and 4.44 mm, respectively.
