Preparation and characterization of modified sepiolite for the removal of Acid green 20 from aqueous solutions: isotherm, kinetic and process optimization

Abstract: In this study, adsorption of Acid green 20 (AG 20) by modified sepiolite, hexadecyltrimethylammonium-modified sepiolite (HDTMA-Sep), was optimized using response surface methodology based on a central composite design. Characteristics of natural sepiolite and modified sepiolite can be analyzed by FTIR and XRD techniques. In order to achieve a better comprehension of applicability of adsorbent for removing dyes from colored effluents, isotherm and kinetic studies were also carried out. The maximum dye removal o… Show more

“…ese phenomena have caused public concerns and attracted relevant exploration. Numerous effective treatment techniques, including ultrasonic assisted adsorption, enzymatic treatment, various oxidants, and adsorption, have been exploited [9][10][11][12]. However, several problems emerge in the promotion and production of these methods.…”

“…Modi cation of sepiolite with hexadecyltrimethylammonium, a cationic surfactant, which increased the adsorption capacity of the dye acid green to 60.6 mg/L (Malakootian et al, 2018). A novel polyacrylonitrile grafted sepiolite nanohybrid material was synthesized using synchrotron radiation grafting technology and was able to adsorb copper ions up to 278 mg/g (Taimur et al, 2017).…”

“…Its tunnel structure is a means for loading dyes and drugs, which has extended its potential as a delivery vehicle. Sepiolites are also known for their sorption properties for industrial wastewater purification (removing methylene blue, Acid Green, Basic Red-46, and Direct Blue-85). Sepiolites were used as industrial reinforcing fillers for plastics, bioplastics, and natural rubbers. , This nanofiber clay binds different types of nucleic acid molecules through hydrogen bonding, cation bridges, and van der Waals forces and was considered as a DNA delivery system . Sepiolite has already been reported as biocompatible and has been successfully tested as an intramuscular and subcutaneous implantable nanomaterial …”
