Polyurethane, a controlled release material, has been widely applied in many fields due to its high thermal and mechanical stability, corrosion resistance, and low cost. In this article, we prepared carbosulfan/polyurethane microcapsules by an interfacial polymerization method using modified isocyanate as the precursor and triethanolamine as a curing agent. The microcapsules were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their release kinetics, chemical stability, and the safety of wheat seeds coating were also detected. The microcapsules had an excellent encapsulation efficiency and loading ability for carbosulfan ∼96.23% and 50%, respectively. Furthermore, the microcapsules improved the chemical stability of the carbosulfan and exhibited an excellent sustained release property (above 30 days), which controlled the carbosulfan and carbofuran at an appropriate level for reducing the adverse effects on the environment and agricultural products. The coated wheat seeds germination rate test showed that compared with the emulsifiable concentrate, the microcapsules almost had no effect on the germination rate, plant height, and root length. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Optimization of Cd(II) adsorption condition by glycine-modified silica-based adsorbent using central composite design

Silica gel (SG) is one of common adsorbent on solid phase extraction for preconcentration. Due to the low selectivity and effectiveness of adsorption to metal ions, SG should be modified. The SG was modified with d-glycine (Si-Gly) using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane and glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker. Capability of Si-Gly as adsorbent for cadmium ions (Cd) was investigated using batch adsorption. The result was proved by infrared spectra. The optimum condition of Cd adsorption by the Si-Gly was obtained at pH 5, with 0.3 g of adsorbent and 11 minutes of contact time. The percentage of Cd adsorption at the optimum condition by the Si-Gly (99.34%) which is greater than the SG (89.03%). The maximum adsorption capacity of the Si-Gly is 9.77 mg/g, obtained at 400 mg/L. The Cd(II) adsorption on the SG and the Si-Gly follow the Langmuir isotherm equation.

Environment‐friendly and controlled release formulation is highly promising for reducing environmental pollution and achieving the most effective utilization of pesticides. As a novel “green” nanocarrier of pesticides, amphiphilic self‐assembled nanoparticles were prepared by chemical conjugation of octahydrogenated retinoic acid (OR) to the backbone of glycol chitosan (GC). In aqueous media, the synthesized OR‐GC conjugates formed nanosized particles with a diameter of 257 nm. Hydrophobic azadirachtin (AZA) was efficiently loaded into the OR‐GC nanoparticles at a feed weight ratio of up to 1:4 using a simple dialysis method, the maximum drug‐loading efficiency of which was 74%. AZA‐OR‐GC (25 wt %) nanoparticles also showed sustained release of the incorporated AZA (65% of the loaded dose was released in 7 days at 27 °C in phosphate‐buffered saline; pH 7.2). Cytotoxicity tests and cell cycle arrest assays confirmed that OR‐GC exhibits good biocompatibility; AZA‐OR‐GC (25 wt %) nanoparticles also showed favorable inhibition of cell proliferation in Sl‐1 cells compared with free AZA in organic solvents. Overall, controlled release AZA‐OR‐GC may be a promising environment‐friendly formulation for integrated pest management. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym.
