Preparation and Characterization of Biodegradable PLA/PCL Polymeric Blends

Abstract: In this study, blends of biodegradable Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and Polycaprolactone (PCL), were prepared using Hakee Rheomix and characterized for rheological , thermal, mechanical and viscoelastic properties. Morphology of tensile fractured surfaces was examined through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The blends of PLA/PCL exhibited an increase in percentage of elongation, impact toughness, loss factor and decrease in strength and modulus, when compared to that of neat PLA. Among the various blend propor… Show more

“…The main‐chain ester linkages are centers at which acid‐basically or enzymatically catalyzed hydrolysis can take place giving, in the ultimate state environmentally compatible LA molecules. However, relatively high hydrophobicity and close packing of PLA chains hinder biodegradation of PLA , thereby limiting its applications . Therefore, PLA s are used to be modified in order to introduce a disorder making ester groups more accessible to water, in order to obtain better applicable materials with improved degradability and functional properties .…”

“…However, relatively high hydrophobicity and close packing of PLA chains hinder biodegradation of PLA , thereby limiting its applications . Therefore, PLA s are used to be modified in order to introduce a disorder making ester groups more accessible to water, in order to obtain better applicable materials with improved degradability and functional properties . Typical strategy is based on preparation of PLA with shorter chains that are in the next step linked to longer chains by using a suitable diisocyanate that effectively links PLA chains and simultaneously introduces degradable urethane units.…”

“…Comparative study was done with different biodiesels to estimate the performance of the engine which has lead to improvement in efficiency of the engine. Therefore, same parameters are considered in present paper to estimate the effect of coolant on engine performance [2,3,10,17]. This study on the constrained convective heat exchange and stream attributes of a nanofluid comprising of water and distinctive volume convergences of Al 2 O 3 nanofluid (0.3-2)% streaming in a flat shell and tube heat exchanger counter stream under turbulent stream conditions are researched.…”

“…O diâmetro das fibras é um parâmetro fundamental no mecanismo de fratura exibido pelo material, pois influencia na relação L/D e, por consequência, na transferência de esforço da matriz para as fibras. Fibras com maior diâmetro tendem a formar amplificadores de tensão, resultando em um progresso mais rápido da fratura e, desse modo, tanto a tenacidade quanto a porcentagem de deformação na ruptura tornam-se substancialmente menores [100,102].…”
