« La tarentule est vivante, elle n'est pas morte » 1 Musique, tradition, anthropologie et tourisme dans le Salento (Pouilles, Italie) Le Salento contemporain : une identité pour vivre et pour vendre Depuis une dizaine d'années, on assiste dans le Salento, l'extrême bout des Pouilles où se situent le finis terrae et le point le plus oriental de la péninsule italienne, à la mise en oeuvre de politiques culturelles visant à promouvoir une identité locale. Celle-ci, comme le souhaitent ses artisans, devrait permettre à ce petit territoire de « faire entendre sa voix » à l'échelle globale. Ce mouvement tout à fait contemporain prend son essor à partir d'une relation nouvelle au territoire, à ses ressources patrimoniales et à son passé. Ainsi, il s'agira ici d'analyser « la façon dont le passé et son récit sous forme d'histoire sont mobilisés comme une ressource dans les processus de construction des identités » : de ce point de vue, il s'agit d'une mobilisation du passé qui a un sens pour le présent (de L'Estoile 2001 : 123). La redécouverte des racines et la revitalisation des traditions locales serviraient à entretenir une différence essentielle par rapport à un monde dont on appréhende et on craint tout d'abord l'homogénéisation. Sont tout à fait actuelles les affirmations de maints hommes politiques ou des opérateurs culturels salentins qui, très souvent, lorsqu'ils parlent des traditions ancestrales qui seraient le propre de leur région, finissent par se référer à la mondialisation. L'identité locale, dans ces discours, est une ressource qu'il faut valoriser pour gagner sa place dans le combat mondial pour la présence, pour le droit d'exister et pour ne pas être effacé par une culture, soupçonnée comme dominante, uniformisant les autres. De ce point de vue, ce mouvement contemporain salentin s'insère à juste titre dans ce que Jean-Loup Amselle (2001 : 24-25) a appelé « le forum international » ou « le marché mondial des identités ». 1. « Ballati tutti quanti ballati forti / ca la taranta è viva e nun è morta » (« dansez tous dansez vite / car la tarentule est vivante, elle n'est pas morte ») : couplet d'un morceau traditionnel de pizzica, la musique qui-notamment dans sa forme de pizzica tarantata-était le plus souvent jouée pendant les rituels du tarentisme.
