-The objective was to evaluate intake and digestibility of nutrients, as well as milk production and composition of the milk from F1 Holstein × Gyr cows kept on pasture, supplemented with sugarcane and concentrate (28% CP). Five cows with 150±14 lactation days and average milk production of 7.1±2.1 kg/day were distributed in a 5 × 5 Latin square design. The treatments were: soybean meal-based concentrate; soy bean-based concentrate; ground soybean-based concentrate; roasted soybean-based concentrate; and ground, roasted soybean-based concentrate. Dry matter (DM), organic matter, crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), total carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients intakes were not affected by the diet, but ether extract intake was higher for the animals fed soy bean-based diets than those fed soybean meal. The digestibility of DM, NDF and CP did not differ. The corrected milk yield differed between treatments; animals on the treatment with soy bean-based concentrate had the lowest production in relation to the others, which did not differ from each other. There was no difference between treatments for milk composition. Thus, soybean meal can be replaced by ground soy beans or roasted soy beans (ground or whole) in diets for low-yield cows reared on Brachiaria decumbens pastures with no harm to milk production or composition. Therefore, the use of these alternative raw materials is recommended whenever their inclusion represents lower feeding costs.

RESUMO -Para avaliação do consumo e da digestibilidade aparente dos nutrientes de dietas contendo diferentes níveis (0; 12,0; 25,0; 38,0 e 51,0%) de palma forrageira ( Opuntia ficus indica Mill) em substituição total ao milho ( Zea mays L.) e parcial ao feno de capim-tifton ( Cynodon spp), foram utilizadas cinco vacas da raça Holandesa, distribuídas em quadrado latino 5 × 5. No início do experimento, os animais apresentavam 583 ± 7,07 kg de peso corporal (PC) e período de lactação em torno de 110 dias. Cada período experimental teve duração de 17 dias, dez dias para adaptação dos animais à dieta e sete dias para coleta de dados. O consumo de MS (kg/dia, %PC e g/kg 0,75 ) e os consumos de MO, EE, PB, carboidratos totais (CT), FDN, FDA e NDT (kg/dia) diminuíram linearmente conforme aumentaram os níveis de palma forrageira na dieta. O consumo de CNF, no entanto, aumentou com a inclusão de palma forrageira na dieta. Os coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente de MS, MO, EE, PB, CT e CNF não foram influenciados pela inclusão de palma forrageira na dieta. Entretanto, o coeficiente de digestibilidade aparente da FDN reduziu linearmente com a inclusão de palma forrageira na dieta. Intake and digestibility ABSTRACT -The experiment was conducted to evaluate the intake and apparent digestibility of the nutrients in diets containing different levels (0, 12.0, 25.0, 38.0, and 51.0%) of forage cactus (Opuntia ficus indica Mill) in total replacement of corn ( Zea mays L .) and partial of Tifton hay (Cynodon spp). Five Holstein cows were assigned to a 5x5 latin square. The animals showed an average of 583 ± 7,07 kg BW and lactation period around 110 days. Each experimental period lasted 17 days, 10 days for the adaptation of the animals to the diet and 7 days for data collecting. The DM intake (kg/day, %BW and g/kg 0.75 ), and the intakes of OM, EE, CP, total carbohydrate (TC), NDF, ADF and TDN (kg/day) decreased linearly as forage cactus increased in the diet. However, NFC intake increased with the inclusion of forage cactus in the diet. Apparent digestibilities of DM,OM, EE, CP, TC and NFC were not influenced by the inclusion of the forage cactus in the diet. Nevertheless, NDF apparent digestibility showed a linear decrease as forage cactus increased in the diet. The inclusion of forage cactus in diets showed negative effect on the nutrient intake and the NDF apparent digestibility.

RESUMO -Avaliaram-se o consumo e a digestibilidade dos nutrientes, o ganho de peso e a conversão alimentar de bovinos de corte recebendo dietas contendo feno de capim-tifton 85 e silagem de milho nas proporções 100:0; 68:32; 35:65 e 0:100, com base na MS. Foram utilizados 19 animais mestiços Limousin x Zebu, não-castrados, com PV inicial de 301 kg, distribuídos em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado. A relação volumoso:concentrado foi de 58:42, com base na MS. O ensaio teve duração de 99 dias, sendo 15 dias de adaptação e três períodos de 28 dias para avaliações. Para determinação da excreção fecal, utilizou-se a fibra em detergente ácido indigestível (FDAi) como indicador. Os consumos médios de MS, MO, PB, CT e FDN apresentaram efeito quadrático em função de níveis crescentes de silagem de milho. Para os consumos de MS e MO, estimaram-se valores máximos de 7,52 e 7,08 kg/dia para os níveis de 61,13 e 61,78%, respectivamente, de silagem de milho no volumoso. As digestibilidades aparentes de MS, MO e FDN não foram influenciadas pelos níveis de silagem de milho no volumoso. O ganho de peso médio diário aumentou de forma linear e a conversão alimentar decresceu, também de forma linear, com o incremento da proporção de silagem de milho no volumoso das dietas. A silagem de milho como constituinte do volumoso da dieta, na proporção de 61%, proporcionou máximo consumo de MS. O ganho de peso aumentou 4,82 g/dia para cada unidade de silagem de milho adicionada ao volumoso da dieta para novilhos mestiços Limousin.Palavras-chave: confinamento, conversão alimentar, fibra em detergente ácido indigestível Effect of replacing Tifton 85 hay with corn silage on intake, digestibility, and performance of crossbred Limousin x Zebu bulls ABSTRACT -Intake, digestibility of nutrients, daily gain, and feed conversion were evaluated in beef cattle receiving diets containing Tifton 85 hay and corn silage in the following proportions (% forage DM): 100:0, 68:32, 35:65, and 0:100. A forage:concentrate ratio of 58:42 (% diet DM) was used. Nineteen crossbred Limousin x Zebu bulls averaging 301 kg of initial body weight were allotted to completely randomized design. The trial lasted 99 days with 15 days for diet adaptation and three experimental periods of 28 days. Indigestible acid detergent fiber was used as an internal marker to estimate fecal excretion. The mean daily intakes of DM, OM, CP, TC, and NDF all responded quadratically by increasing the corn silage level in the diet. The quadratic maxima for both DM and OM intakes were 7.52 and 7.08 kg/day at 61.13 and 61.78% of corn silage in the forage fraction of the diet, respectively. The apparent total tract digestibilities of DM, OM, and NDF were not affected by the proportion of corn silage in the diet. However, average daily gain and feed conversion increased and decreased linearly, respectively, when the proportion of corn silage in the forage portion of the diet was increased from 0 to 100%.
