Power Quality Improvement Using an Active Power Sharing Scheme in More Electric Aircraft

Abstract: This paper proposed a harmonic suppression scheme that used a DC-DC converter as an active harmonic injector to cancel voltage harmonics on the HVDC bus within a hybrid power generation centre (HPGC). A permanent magnet synchronous generator and a battery are considered to supply power to a common HVDC bus through their dedicated AC-DC and DC-DC converters respectively within the HPGC. We proposed simplified mathematical models of harmonics from the AC-DC and DC-DC converters. Thereafter, an active power shari… Show more

“…Gas turbines in civil aeroplanes supply both the secondary power needed for all onboard systems and the primary power for the engine thrust [1][2][3]. More electric aircraft (MEA) has been established to gradually replace the hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic sources with their electric equivalents in order to enhance the secondary power system's controllability and overall performance [4][5][6][7]. Electrical drives make it possible to implement the concept of MEA, facilitating the generation and conversion of renewable energy at a low cost and with high efficiency [1,8].…”

“…The more-electric-aircraft (MEA) concept becomes the state-of-the-art for aerospace industry in recent years [1][2][3][4][5][6]. With the help of the active rectification technology [7] and advanced control algorithms [8][9][10][11], the ESG system shows its potential aiming for higher fuel efficiency, reduced overall aircraft weight and better environmental impact.…”
