Introduction. Ovarian cancer is an oncogynecological disease with high mortality. High mortality caused by this pathology is associated with diagnosis at the III–IV stage of the disease. This stage of the disease is characterized by metastasis and reflected in the 5-year survival rate, decreasing to 30.2 %. At the same time, when diagnosed at the I-II stage, this indicator is 92.6%. The aim of the work is bibliometric analysis and generalization of data from scientific sources on the study of ovarian cancer metastasis. Materials and methods. Information was searched on electronic resources of the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases using the keywords "ovarian cancer" and "metastases." An online platform for monitoring and analyzing scientific sources was used for bibliometric analysis. We used several VOSviewer bibliometric network visualization system tools and SciVal (Scopus) modern citation requirements. Results. It has been established that metastasis of ovarian cancer can occur in several ways and depends on the conditions of the tumor microenvironment. The influence of E-cadherin, MMP-2, and transglutaminase-2 on metastasis processes was evaluated. Also, the role of cytokines in the invasiveness of the tumor process and metastasis was established. The results of bibliometric analysis of scientific sources showed that over the past 20 years, the number of publications on ovarian cancer metastasis has increased significantly, and the most widely given topic is studied in the USA and China. Conclusions. Metastasis of ovarian cancer can occur in several ways and depends on the conditions of the tumor microenvironment. It was found that among the analyzed 496 publications, the most relevant directions are molecular-biological and signaling pathways, which are described in many ways in scientific sources on ovarian cancer metastasis. The calcification of peritoneal metastases and their formation mechanism are currently not investigated, and there is no thorough explanation that may become a perspective for further research.

Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAP) have been widely used in various fields because of their natural biological origin and functional properties. The emerging evidence on their toxicities has attracted research interest. HAP-induced vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) damage is a key step in vascular calcification (VC), particularly in patients with chronic kidney disease. However, the injury effects and mechanism of action of HAP on VSMCs have not been extensively investigated. This study comprehensively characterized commercially available HAP and investigated its adverse biological effects in cultured A7R5 cells. In vitro experiments revealed that internalized HAP was localized in lysosomes, followed by the release of Ca2+ owing to the low pH microenvironment. Upon Ca2+ homeostasis, Ca2+ enters the mitochondria, leading to the simultaneous generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS subsequently attack mitochondrial transmembrane potentials, promote mitochondrial ROS production, and oxidize mitochondrial DNA (Ox-mtDNA). Mitochondrial permeability-transition pores open, followed by the release of more Ox-mtDNA from the mitochondria into the cytosol due to the redox imbalance. This activates NLRP3/caspase-1/gasdermin D-dependent pyroptosis and finally excretes inflammatory factors to induce VC; an antioxidant could rescue this process. It has been suggested that HAP could induce an imbalance in intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis in A7R5 cells, followed by the promotion of mitochondrial dysfunction and cell pyroptosis, finally enhancing VC. To detect the in vivo toxicity of HAP, mice were treated with Cy7-labelled HAP NPs for 24 h. In vivo results also demonstrated that HAP accumulated in the kidneys, accompined with increased Ca concentration, upregulated oxidative stress-related factor and kidney damage. Overall, our research elucidates the mechanism of calcium homeostasis and redox imbalance, providing insights into the prevention of HAP-induced cell death.

The role of pathological biomineralization (PBM) as a prognostic and diagnostic marker in thyroid cancer is continuously debated among investigators. Detection of pathological biomineralization in the lymph nodes of the neck is an alarming signal for clinicians. Typically, a lymph node with signs of calcification is a symptom of papillary thyroid cancer. The lymph node contains such a form of calcification as psammoma bodies in such cases. Psammoma bodies of relatively large size (more than 200 μm) can be detected by ultrasound. Our study aims to study the crystal-chemical and phase characteristics of calcifications of metastatic lymph nodes in thyroid cancer to develop promising methods of early diagnosis. Materials and methods. Several complex research methods have been conducted for a deeper understanding of the pathological biomineralization of metastatic lymph nodes in thyroid cancer, such as macroscopic examination, ultrasound diagnostics, detection of strict lymph node, histological, histochemical, and electron microscopic (scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy). Our study found that the main component of pathological biomineral deposits is calcium phosphate compounds. The Ca / P ratio corresponds to the characteristic features of hydroxyapatite. A significant proportion of β-tricalcium magnesium phosphate was also detected in some cases. The specific plate structure and the known phase and crystal-chemical composition of psammoma bodies can be the point of application of searches for their early detection using the latest diagnostic methods with high resolution. Conclusion. Our study demonstrated the significance of PBM in lymph nodes as a diagnostic symptom of papillary thyroid cancer patients. The presence and extent of PBM in the lymph nodes should be considered a metastasis of papillary thyroid cancer. The study of the structure, physicochemical, phase composition of lymph node calcifications, and visualization features is promising given the possible practical application for early diagnosis of metastases of papillary thyroid cancer.
