“…On reviewing the ethnobotanical literature pertaining to medicinal plants of southern Africa, over 80 references to STI therapy could be found (Watt and Breyer-Brandwijk, 1962;Hutchings et al, 1996;Neuwinger et al, 2000;Von Koenen, 2001). Some plant-based antimicrobial studies with STI relevance have been undertaken (Talwar et al, 2000;Vermani and Garg, 2002;Okoli and Iroegbu, 2004;Schwiertz et al, 2006;Bhengraj et al, 2008;Shokeen et al, 2009); however, only a few have been undertaken on indigenous South African medicinal plants (Kambizi et al, 2004;Tshikalange et al, 2005;Buwa and Van Staden, 2006;Tsikalange et al, 2008;Klos et al, 2009).
