Position sensorless and adaptive speed design for controlling brushless DC motor drives

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for direct torque control of Brushless DC (BLDC) motors. Evaluating the trapezium of back-EMF is needed, and is done via a sliding mode observer employing just one measurement of stator current. The effect of the proposed estimation algorithm is reducing the impact of switching noise and consequently eliminating the required filter. Furthermore, to overcome the uncertainties related to BLDC motors, Recursive Least Square (RLS) is regarded as a real-time estimator of inertia and vis… Show more

“…In PM brushless direct current motor, the viscous damping coefficient D reflects the hardness of mechanical properties of motor, the response speed of system, the electromagnetic efficiency and the efficiency of motor. 24 When ignore the motor winding inductance, the relationship between viscous damping coefficient D and main sizes of motor can be expressed as equation (12).…”

“…Researchers have worked on renewable energy fed BLDC drive with a DC-DC converter for reducing vibration and noise [18]. Several control schemes are prevalent for BLDC motor drives, such as FPGA based scheme [19][20], sensor-less control [21,22], etc. Compared with the traditional inverter, the Z-source inverter has an extra shoot through switching state .During the shootthrough state, the output voltage to the load terminals is zero, i.e., both the thyristors of the same leg conduct simultaneously.…”

“…The BLDCM replaces the mechanical phase with electronic commutation, so it also has the advantage of low maintenance cost. After several decades of development, brushless dc motor and its control technology have become increasingly mature, including position sensorless control technology [1][2], neural network control, and active disturbance rejection control [3][4] and many other control methods for suppressing communication torque ripple. So its applications are more and more extensive.…”
