Polymeric Nanoparticles: Exploring the Current Drug Development and Therapeutic Insight of Breast Cancer Treatment and Recommendations

Abstract: This manuscript aims to provide the latest update on polymeric nanoparticle drug delivery system for breast cancer treatment after 2015 and how research-oriented it is based on the available research data. Therefore, the authors have chosen breast cancer which is the most frequent and common reason for mortality in women worldwide. The first-line treatment for breast cancer treatment is chemotherapy, apart from surgery, radiation and hormonal therapy. Chemotherapy is associated with lesser therapeutics and und… Show more

“…Additionally, if the above-mentioned strategy is still insufficient for the desired results, it is also worth mentioning that surfactants such as Poloxamine 908 are able to influence the uptake in desired tissues (decreasing the liver uptake while increasing the spleen uptake) [ 140 ]. Some polymeric nanoparticles are also able to increase uptake in a specific tissue, further helping to target the desired infection location (such as Amikacin-bearing PLGA nanoparticles that have an increased uptake in Peyer’s patches compared to plain Amikacin) [ 141 ].…”

“…On the other hand, the survival of SH-SY5Y cells considerably declined after 24 h of exposure to curcumin at dosages of 20, 40, and 80 µM, and the surviving cells continued to reduce over the subsequent h. The information above shows that CNPs and CNPs-PT significantly diminish the toxicity of curcumin. In this regard, a desirable attribute (and practical aspect of polymeric nanoparticles promoted with a prolonged release period) is reducing drugs' cytotoxic effect [78,79].…”

“…Those lying between this size range are considered to be most appropriate for cancer treatment (Smith et al, 2012;Jaiswal and Dudhe, 2015;Han et al, 2021). Nanoparticles can be classified into various types including metallic nanoparticles (Subhan, 2022), polymeric nanoparticles (Sartaj et al, 2021), solid lipid nanoparticles (Ashtari et al, 2020;Ozgenc et al, 2022), and fullerenes. The characterization of nanoparticles for drug release and drug targeting primarily depends on the evaluation of particle size and morphology (Song et al, 2020).…”

“…A quercetin-loaded PLGA microsphere are developed for the treatment of breast cancer. Similarly, there is a lot of research being conducted where microspheres have also been considered as one of the emerging possible carriers for drugs that can be used for the treatment of breast cancer (Sartaj et al, 2021).…”
