Polymer blends of epoxy resin and epoxidized natural rubber

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The aim of this research was to investigate the behaviors of epoxy resin blended with epoxidized natural rubber (ENR). ENRs were prepared via in situ epoxidation method so that the obtained ENRs contained epoxide groups 25, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 mol %. The amounts of ENRs in the blends were 2, 5, 7, and 10 parts per hundred of epoxy resin (phr). From the results, it was found that the impact strength of epoxy resin can be improved by blending with ENRs. Tensile strength and Young's modulus were found… Show more

“…The nanoparticles obtained are crystalline in nature as no amorphous humps are observed. Silica nanoparticles can be extracted from other natural sources like rice husk which require temperatures higher than 700°C, whereas in the present study crystalline silica nanoparticles could be extracted from earthworm humus at 500°C [13,14,16]. The average size of the nanoparticles obtained from earthworm humus is 35±3 nm.…”

“…The synthesis of these nanoparticles in the laboratory involves the complexity of chemical reactions. Earthworm humus which is available abundantly has been found to be an excellent source of silica nanoparticles [3,14].…”

“…In other studies, the inclusion of NR and ENR as rubber‐toughening materials into epoxy resin brought about significant improvements in the impact toughness, in which the ENR/epoxy resins had a higher strength compared to the NR/epoxy resins . The incorporation of the liquid version of the ENR impact modifier in the epoxy resin resulted in a higher impact strength as compared to that of the NR impact modifier .…”

“…8 The major concerns in composite matrix area are to strengthen the mechanical property 9 and thermal resistance. 10 Here again, we found that those deficiencies of PAA resin could be well overcome by blending with propargyl-novolac resin [PN resin, Fig. 1(b)]-a novel addition-cure phenolic resin.…”
