Phytotoxic and antioxidant effects of dichloromethane fraction of Smilax Brasiliensis Sprengel

Abstract: Dichloromethane (DCM) fraction and sub-fractions obtained from Smilax brasiliensis leaves were examined in order to determine their phytotoxic and antioxidant effects. The dichloromethane fraction was submitted to a preparative layer chromatography leading to seven sub-fractions (DCM1-DCM7). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was performed on the dichloromethane sub-fractions. The DCM sub-fractions presented phytotoxic potential; at a concentration of 125 µg per plate, DCM6 and DCM4 showed the strong… Show more

“…Allelopathic, cytotoxic, genotoxic and antigenotoxic effects were observed in the studies of Amado et al (2019Amado et al ( , 2020a. The phytotoxic effects of the hexane and dichloromethane fractions from the leaves of S. brasiliensis was also demonstrated (Barbosa et al, 2021;Fonseca et al, 2019). This work aimed to evaluate the influence of the extract and fractions S. brasiliensis leaves on development in vitro of Nicotiana tabacum and Allium cepa seeds.…”

“…Os extratos hexânico e hidroetanolico da folha da espécie Caryocar coriaceum (pequizeiro) inibiu o crescimento radicular da A. cepa na concentração de 50 µg/ml (Cardoso et al, 2021). Barbosa et al (2019) avaliaram a toxicidade da fração e subfrações de diclorometano (DCM) obtidas das folhas de Smilax brasiliensis (japecanga) e observaram o efeito tóxico contra a Lactuca sativa e Allium cepa.…”
