Phytochemical Screening and Pharmacological Evaluation of Different Extracts of Plant Casearia Tomentosa Leaves

Abstract: Objective: In present study different extracts of the leaves of plant Casearia tomentosa was investigated for the phytochemical screening, total phenolic content and various pharmacological activities like antioxidant, antidiabetic, antibacterial. Methods: Leaves of C. tomentosa were successively extracted by soxhlet extraction method using petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol. The preliminary phytochemical investigation of different extracts was carried out according to standard methods. Anti… Show more

“…The presence of secondary metabolites including alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids in the plant may be are responsible for its potential antibacterial activity [17]. The reason for a greater activity of hexane extract could be attributed to the non-polar nature of the solvent which may be responsible for the extraction of a wide range of phytoconstituents that potentiates the activity of extract [18].…”

“…A study of the antioxidant activity of the leaves of the Casearia tomentosa plant revealed that it had a high antioxidant property [10] . Different extracts of the leaves of the plant Casearia tomentosa have been found to be a possible natural source of antioxidant, antidiabetic, and antibacterial agents in the current investigation [9] . The goal of this study is to see if Casearia tomentosa Roxb's bark and leaf extracts have antibacterial and antioxidant properties.…”

“…The phytochemical screening and various pharmacological properties of several extracts of the leaves of the plant Casearia tomentosa were examined in this study. Alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, glycosides, protein, and other phytochemicals are found in Casearia tomentosa leaves [9] . Preliminary phytochemical analysis of this plant's extract indicated the presence of active phytoconstituents such as steroids, phytosterol, terpenoids, fats and oils, and other phytoconstituents.…”

“…plant is exhibits various pharmacological activities reported as analgesic, antipyretic, antiinflammatory [5], antispasmodic [6], anthelmintic, antimicrobial activity [7], and antioxidant [8,9] as well. Due to the presence of several active phytoconstituents [10], this synthesizes primary and secondary metabolites having benefits in traditional system of medicine [11].…”
