Phylogenetic lineages in the Capnodiales

Abstract: The Capnodiales incorporates plant and human pathogens, endophytes, saprobes and epiphytes, with a wide range of nutritional modes. Several species are lichenised, or occur as parasites on fungi, or animals. The aim of the present study was to use DNA sequence data of the nuclear ribosomal small and large subunit RNA genes to test the monophyly of the Capnodiales, and resolve families within the order. We designed primers to allow the amplification and sequencing of almost the complete nuclear ribosomal… Show more

“…Rachicladosporium species have been isolated from leaf and twig litter in the USA (Cheewangkoon et al 2009;Crous et al 2009), leaf spots on Luculia sp. in New Zealand (Crous et al 2007) and needles of Pinus monophylla in the Netherlands (Crous et al 2011).…”

“…This is a major difference from sooty mould fungi that colonise only the surface of plants and grow on honeydew from insects (Chomnunti et al 2014;Crous et al 2009;Hughes 1976). Therefore, reference to the black mould on the stems and branches of baobab as "sooty mould" should be avoided.…”

“…Early molecular work based on ITS DNA sequencing indicated that Mycosphaerella was monophyletic, although the subsequent introduction of additional loci and more taxa showed it was polyphyletic ( Crous et al, 2009a andCrous et al, 2009c). As a consequence, members of this genus were allocated to different families such as Schizothyriaceae ( Batzer et al 2008), Cladosporiaceae ( Schubert et al, 2007, Dugan et al, 2008, Bensch et al, 2010and Bensch et al, 2012, Dissoconiaceae, Mycosphaerellaceae and Teratosphaeriaceae ( Crous et al, 2009b andLi et al, 2012). From these results it became evident that the mycosphaerella-like morphology had evolved multiple times and a new circumscription of Mycosphaerella was urgently required.…”

“…Identifikasi kapang dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan secara morfologi (makroskopis dan mikroskopis) dan molekuler (Crous et al, 2009). Dalam identifikasi secara morfologi, masing-masing koloni yang memiliki warna dan tekstur yang berbeda dipindahkan ke media malt extract agar (MEA) dan czapeks yeast agar (CYA).…”
