Versuche an Emulsionskörnern im elektrischen Feld zeigen, daß bei hohen Lichtintensitäten eine spontane Silberkeimbildung an der Oberfläche von Halogensilberkörnern auch bei Abwesenheit von Reifkeimen und strukturellen Fehlstellen einsetzt. Die Lichtintensität muß dabei so hoch sein, daß das Produkt aus Zwischengittersilberionenkonzentration und Photoelektronenkonzentration (n+ · no−) einen kritischen Wert überschreitet. Durch feldfreie Vorbelichtung und Nachbelichtung im Feld kann ferner die Keimumlagerung illustriert werden.
