Photocatalytic degradation of dye pollutants under solar, visible and UV lights using green synthesised CuS nanoparticles

Abstract: A green method for the solvothermal synthesis of copper sulphide nanoparticles (CuS NPs) using xanthan gum as a capping agent was developed. The CuS NPs were characterised by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction, BrunauerÀEmmentÀTeller, zeta analysis, thermal gravimetricÀ differential thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared and UVÀvisible absorption spectra. These characterisations together determine the composition, structural, thermal and optical proper… Show more

“…However, prepared CuS NPs in solid form have been reported using different sulfide sources viz. sodium sulfide (Huang et al 2017;Riyaz et al 2016;Ayodhya et al 2016;Shamsipur et al 2013;Castillon-Barraza et al 2011;Ding et al 2010), sodium thiosulfate (Nafees et al 2015;Kundu and Pradhan 2013; Percent radial growth inhibition ¼ Radial growth of fungal colony in control À Radial growth of fungal colony in treatment Radial growth of fungal colony in control  100 With the increase in level of capping the size reduces and in turn, the k max value get relatively blue shifted (Rani 2016), which is the most probable explanation for the altered optical properties of nanoparticles when capped.…”

“…Recently, the role of semiconductor photocatalysts in enhancing the degradation of various dyes, organic pollutants and pharmaceuticals has attracted much attention [3][4][5]. Great significance is given to works that explore new catalysts or that compares with the existing catalysts, for better and efficient performance in various applications [6].…”

“…Recently, semiconductor photocatalysis has attracted much attention for waste water treatment due to its potential of scavengering large range of toxic pollutants (organic and inorganic) at ambient pressure and temperature with no harmful by-products (Saeed et al 2015). This technology provides a simple route for conversion of solar energy into chemical energy used for water splitting and other purposes (Ayodhya et al 2016). In photocatalysis, semiconductors are used as photocatalysts (Kumar et al 2008).…”
