Antifungal evaluation studies of copper sulfide nano-aquaformulations and its impact on seed quality of rice (Oryzae sativa)

Abstract: Surface capped copper sulfide nano-aquaformulations were prepared by in situ combination of copper ions with sulfide ions using sonochemical method, followed by microwave irradiations, in the presence of capping agents. Prepared nano-aquaformulations were characterized for particle size, morphology and optical properties. The in vitro antifungal evaluations studies indicated multifold efficacy against Alternaria alternata, Drechslera oryzae and Curvularia lunata in comparison to standard used. The in vivo seed… Show more

“…In the case of seed treatments [21,62,70,71,72,73,74,75,76] and early-stage root treatments in hydroponic media [56], ENM transfer into edible plant segments and to the environment is limited. In view of their reported benefits, their use appears to be justified.…”

“…Various nanoforms of metal sulfides have been explored in our laboratory which has given significant outcomes at lower concentrations against various phytopathogenic fungi. CuS nanoparticles were considered as an excellent antifungal agent against various fungi with ED 50 values <10 μg/ml (Sidhu, Barmota, & Bala, 2017). Their applications are not limited to their antifungal potential only but they have been reported to reinforce the physical growth parameters of seedlings, boosting the seedling health with no symptoms of toxicity.…”

“…Besides Ag NPs, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of Cu ions are also outstanding. [ 168,169 ] Compared with bulk Cu, CuO NPs exhibit better catalytic activity and inhibition of microorganism. [ 170 ] Van et al studied the effects of CuO NPs (30 ± 10 nm) on Bacillus thuringiensis ‐transgenic (Bt‐transgenic) cotton.…”
