Phenotypic Correlation and Path Analysis in Sunflower Genotypes and Pollination Influence on Estimates

Abstract: Eight sunflower genotypes were analyzed to estimate correlation values for nine agronomic traits. Path analysis was used to partition the correlation values into direct and indirect effects on seed yield in two pollination tests (open and restricted pollination). In both tests, there were significant (p<0.05) positive correlation values between seed yield and head diameter, head mass, number and mass of achenes per head and first and last count of germination. There was no correlation (p≥0.05) between seed yie… Show more

“…Therefore, the NAH is not indicated as a single parameter to increase selection efficiency of more productive cultivars. Chambó et al (2017) also found a negative relation between these traits and corroborated results observed in our study. Meanwhile, other studies have not observed this negative relation (Tyagi & Khan, 2013;Rigon et al, 2014), indicating the importance of these assessments under specific environmental conditions.…”

“…Furthermore, HD has greater ease of measurement in a non-destructive assessment in comparison to TAW and NAH. Studies in other cropping environments also corroborate with this result, indicating the relation between HD and YAH (Yasin & Singh, 2010;Darvishzadeh et al, 2011;Hassan et al, 2013;Tyagi & Khan, 2013;Chambó et al, 2017).…”

“…The significant correlations in stress condition indicated that seed yield plant-1 were increased due to increase in head diameter, seeds per head, 1000-seed weight and harvest index while significant negative associations of seed yield with other traits showed that if seed yield increased these traits such as plant height and head mass were decreased that is also desirable association while other correlations either positive or negative they were nonsignificant with seed yield their increase or decrease in traits cannot imposed significant effect on seed yield. Our results are in agreement with those they also reported such type of association with seed yield in water stress condition as well as non-stress conditions they are [47,45].…”
