Phenotypic and Molecular Detection of the Metallo-Beta-Lactamases in Carbapenem-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates from Clinical Samples

Abstract: Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that causing high morbidity and mortality, and responsible for a high proportion of hospital infections. Recently, P. aeruginosa infections having carbapenem group antibiotic-resistant have been increasing and serious problems are being experienced in treatment. Carbapenem resistance mechanisms are the loss of OprD porin protein, excretion of drug with the efflux system and production of metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL). Objectives: The aim of this st… Show more

“…(27) hastane enfeksiyonu etkeni imipenem dirençli P. aeruginosa izolatlarının kombine disk testi ile 53 (%85)'ünde MBL varlığı belirlemişlerdi. Ülkemizde 2020 yılında yapılan bir başka çalışmada, karbapenem dirençli 57 P. aeruginosa suşunda kombine disk difüzyon testi ile %63.7, E-Test ile %27 MBL pozitifliği bildirilmiştir (28) .…”

“…Unfortunately, carbapenems resistant P. aeruginosa has now emerged and is disseminating worldwide. [2][3] Resistance to carbapenems in P. aeruginosa can be mediated by several mechanisms, including MexAB-OprM, AmpC, decreased outer membrane permeability, up-regulation of the efflux pumps, hyper production of a chromosomal AmpC-type cephalosporinases or the production of carbapenemases OprD. 4 There is scarce information available on the distribution of MBLs producing P. aeruginosa isolates in Baghdad hospitals.…”

“…Broad-spectrum penicillins, third and fourth descendant carbapenems, cephalosporins, monobactams, aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, and different antibiotics such as colistin are effective against P. aeruginosa. However, resistance mutations may appear and develop against all the anti-pseudomonal antibiotics [3].…”
