“…Analyses were run on a Finnigan HPLC system (Thermo Electron Corporation, San Jose, CA) provided with photodiode array detector (DAD). The identity of phenolic acids and flavonoids was confirmed with LC-ESI/ MS/MS experiments and data were compared with those of commercial standards and with those reported in previous works (Mari et al, 2010). The same chromatographic conditions were applied to a HP1100 HPLC system (Agilent, Palo Alto, CA) coupled to a PESciex API-2000 triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer (AB Sciex, Warrington, UK) equipped with a Turbospray (TSI) source.…”

“…HPLC separation and quantification of phenolic compounds in apple peel and flesh extracts and samples obtained from in vitro digestion, transepithelial permeation, and plasma protein binding experiments, were performed according to earlier studies with some modifications (Mari et al, 2010). Identification was possible by comparing spectra and retention times with those of commercial standards and with those reported in previous works (Mari et al, 2010).…”

“…Antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic activities of phenolic enriched peel extracts of different cultivars of apple such as Annurca, Red Delicious and Golden Delicious on HL-60 cell line was also studied. All three extracts were able to decrease cell viability from 50 to 80 %, however, annurca apples peel extract was more efficient to do so (Mari et al 2010). The apple pomace which is generally considered as waste also exhibit good antiproliferative Kahle et al 2005;Lamperi et al 2008;Bhushan et al 2008;Neveu et al 2010 potential and showed IC 50 value of 26.40 mg ml (Savatovic et al 2008).…”

“…Quality of apple consists of a combination of visual appearance, flavour and texture. Apple fruit ripening is a process that results in changes in fruit quality such as decreased starch, firmness and fruit removal force, increased red colour and changes in anthocyanin, total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity (MARI et al, 2010).…”
