Performance of Ni-Based Coatings with Various Additives Fabricated by Cold Gas Spraying

Abstract: The complexity of the operating conditions in oil fields requires the development and use of materials with unique properties. This paper presents the study results for nickel-based coatings fabricated by cold gas spraying. In this study, compositions based on Ni, Ni-Cu, Ni-Zn, Ni-Al2O3/TiC coatings applied to low-alloyed steel bases were investigated. Corrosion resistance was studied by means of electrochemical autoclave testing in simulated oilfield conditions. Hydroabrasive resistance was studied using a un… Show more

“…Based on the above-mentioned points, the CS technique has received special attention as a promising candidate for a surface modification method of various materials as it generates a minimal heat-affected zone in both the as-deposited material and substrate [ 5 ]. Copper (Cu) [ 6 ], Cu-based alloys [ 7 , 8 ], Al [ 9 ], Al-based alloys [ 10 , 11 ], Ni [ 12 ], Ni-based alloys [ 13 , 14 ], Ti-based alloys [ 15 , 16 ], Fe-based alloys [ 8 , 17 ], Sn [ 18 ], high or medium entropy alloys [ 19 , 20 ], and metal-based composites such as Cu-Al 2 O 3 [ 21 ], Al-SiC [ 22 ], Al-TiB 2 [ 23 ], Al-Al 2 O 3 [ 24 ], Ni-WC [ 25 ], etc., in the form of coatings or parts, have been successfully actualized by CS technology so far.…”

“…The strategies for mitigating external and internal pipeline corrosion are vast, such as cathodic protection, drying, corrosion inhibitors, biocides and coatings [23]. Coatings for mild steel based on more noble metals such as aluminum and nickel are used [24], but the most promising technology is related to superhydrophobic polymer coatings [25]. They can be considered as bio-inspired coatings and have recently received great attention.…”
