Performance of Chicks Fed Diets Formulated to Minimize Excess Levels of Essential Amino Acids

Abstract: Studies were conducted in which levels of essential amino acids in excess of the minimum requirements were minimized in broiler diets composed of commercially available feed stuffs and synthetic amino acid supplements. Growth rate and efficiency of feed utilization of chicks fed such diets were equal to that attained by chicks fed diets formulated by conventional means when grown under conditions where heat stress was not a factor and significantly improved when fed under conditions of heat stress. Improvement… Show more

“…However, our current findings showed that feeding broilers with diets containing AA higher than the requirements under hot and humid condition is unnecessary. This result is in agreement with that reported by (Waldroup et al, 1976;Leeson, 1986;Cheng et al, 1997Cheng et al, , 1999) who emphasised the importance of maintaining optimal amino acid balance under hot weather conditions. The present findings support those of Swennen et al (2006) and Hernández et al (2012) who showed that birds fed unfortified low-CP diets had lower serum UA.…”

“…As to dietary protein concentration, two strategies are suggested to minimize CHS effects on growth rate: a) the use of low-protein diets in order to decrease heat increment, with some authors recommending lowering dietary protein content with the supplementation of essential amino acids (Waldroup, 1976;Austic, 1985;Cheng et al, 1997); and b) the use of high-protein diets to compensate lower feed intake caused by heat, as recommended by Temim et al (2000).…”
