Pentacyclic Triterpenoid Saponins, Poterinasides A–J, from Silverweed Cinquefoil Roots Promising Hepatoprotective and Anti-inflammatory Agents

Abstract: Silverweed cinquefoil roots, as dietary supplements, foods, and medicines, are widely used in western areas of China, specifically in Tibet Autonomous Region and Gansu and Qinghai Provinces. In this paper, 10 new natural pentacyclic triterpenoid saponins (1−10), named poterinasides A−J, along with 14 known compounds (11−24) were isolated and purified from silverweed cinquefoil roots. The chemical structures of 1−10 were established by extensive analysis of 1D and 2D NMR data and mass spectrometric data. Poteri… Show more

“…COX-2 is upregulated in inflammatory conditions. 44 Thus, the discovery of potent anti-inflammatory compounds from natural plant sources through the inhibition of COX-2 is an effective approach in the pharmaceutical field. In the present study, the COX-2 enzyme inhibiting activity of crude extract of B. indica , as well as the isolated triterpenoid saponins, were evaluated.…”

“…Triterpenoid saponins received extensive attention for their potential medicinal value, such as anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, antimycotic, analgesic, immunomodulatory, and cardiotonic. ,, Especially in the field of antibacterial applications, a variety of triterpenoid saponins from quinoa crops have been found to have antibacterial activity in recent years. These saponins inhibit the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms . Oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins from Paullinia pinnata show antibacterial effects on S.…”
