Due to the impact it has on a person's capacity to communicate in a foreign language, vocabulary mastery is a crucial component that must be taken into consideration. This study aims to determine the level of Arabic vocabulary mastery among students in Selangor, Malaysia's religious secondary schools (SAM), focusing on two aspects: vocabulary size and depth. This study was designed quantitatively by using a survey as a data gathering tool, which is a set of Arabic Vocabulary Assessment Tests (PekkA). The participants involved were a total of 335 Form Four students from Selangor State Secondary Religious schools. The data obtained was analysed descriptively using the Statistical Package for Social Science Windows (SPSS) Version 27. The results indicate that the students had a modest level of command of Arabic vocabulary (size and depth). Meanwhile, the students' degree of mastery Arabic vocabulary size was high, but their level of mastery its depth was moderate. This study shows that the instrument used has high validity based on its careful development procedure that includes aspects of size and depth based on the Common European of Reference for Language (CEFR) test concept. This study also makes a significant contribution to the importance of shaping student autonomy in developing good vocabulary learning ability.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk merumuskan strategi yang cermat dan tepat dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Arab pada tingkat Sekolah dasar. Kegiatan KKN yang kami laksanakan salah satunya program les Bahasa Arab atau LEBAR di Desa Sumbersari yang dilaksanakan kurang lebih 30 hari dengan jumlah anak yang mengikuti les Bahasa Arab sebanyak 25 orang. Prpgram ini dilaksankan di posko KKN RT 04/RW 02 dengan menggunakan metode Mustaqilli. Pelaksanaan Les Bahasa Arab di Desa Sumbersari dilakukan setelah kegiatan mengaji mulai jam 18.00 sampai dengan 19.30 WIB. Dengan diadakan program LEBAR ini, anak menjadi termotivasi dan senang untuk mempelajari bahasa Arab serta mampu meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Arab.

As a basic provision in learning Arabic, students should already have between 300-600 vocabularies, because according to him people who are learning Arabic are the same thing as having children, they already have the provisions to care for and know their respective characters so that all they have to do is to instruct and hone his abilities.…”

This study aims to describe how the problems of implementing Arabic language learning in private Boarding School. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Sources of research data were taken through direct interviews with ten informants (principal, Arabic teacher, and eight students), using a set of interview protocols, to strengthen the research data the authors made observations for three months by being directly involved in the learning process such as practical learning, theoretical learning, and midterm exams. All interview and observation data were then analyzed by means of thematic analysis using the Nvivo12 software. Overall, the research findings found eight problematic themes in the implementation of Arabic learning. The eight themes are divided into three aspects including problems originating from the students themselves, three aspects originating from the teacher's weaknesses in learning Arabic, and two aspects originating from the school itself. The results of this study, hopefully, can be used as initial data for future researchers by discussing this problem with different contexts and issues.
