This research aims at describing the utilization of hand puppets made from used socks adn Let’s Read Application as a storytelling medium in improving the speaking skills of the students at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Al Washliyah Univeristy (Univa), Medan. This study also aims to 1) produce the benefits of hand puppets from used socks and the Let's Read application as learning media, 2) test the feasibility of the learning media, and 3) test the effectiveness of the media. This study uses the Research and Development (RD) ADDIE model. The results show that the feasibility test result conducted by the material validator got an average of 87.5% and media experts got an average of 96.67% with very decent criteria. The limited-scale effectiveness tests of hand puppets made from used socks as a learning medium for the students of FKIP Univa Medan in the 2020-2021 academic year result in an average pre-test score of 41 and an average post-test score of 78. The Hand puppets and Let's Read application are effective to be used in the speaking skills course with t-count of 3,791 and t-table of 2,021. The N-gain calculation data is 0.43. It means that hand puppets made from used socks and the Let's Read application are feasible and effective to be used as learning media for storytelling in the speaking skills course. Students make recordings of storytelling using the hand puppets to display on YouTube. The media can be developed as one of the Indonesian language learning media so that students' understanding and Indonesian language skills increase.

Penelitian ini menganalisis penggunaan metode storytelling dengan media ventriloquist, terutama menggunakan boneka jari, dan menemukan bahwa metode ini memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap keterampilan bercerita siswa di kelas. Metode bercerita ini meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam pengambilan keputusan realitas, serta menginspirasi siswa dalam keterampilan mengajar guru. Selain itu, metode bercerita juga menciptakan suasana belajar yang hidup, memotivasi partisipasi siswa, dan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara serta rasa percaya diri siswa. Media pembelajaran, seperti boneka jari, dapat memandu pembelajaran aktif siswa, memberikan motivasi, dan meningkatkan kedisiplinan. Penggunaan boneka jari dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa dapat mengubah suasana belajar menjadi lebih positif. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi literatur dengan menganalisis berbagai jurnal dan buku yang relevan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi referensi bagi penggunaan metode storytelling dengan media ventriloquist dalam meningkatkan kemampuan bercerita siswa di sekolah dasar.

The purpose of this study was to improve skills through the use of finger puppets for children aged 5-6 years at Pelangi Genyem Kindergarten, Jayapura Regency. This research is a classroom action research. The research subjects were 15 children, consisting of 6 boys and 9 girls. This research uses the action model of Kemmis and Mc Taggart. The research was carried out as many as 6 actions divided into 2 cycles. The results showed an increase in children's language skills. This can be seen from the initial condition of children's language skills which only reached 48.33%. In the first cycle of action 1 became 53.88%, and increased again in the first cycle of action 2 to 60%, and in the first cycle of action 3 increased to 66.67%. Furthermore, in the first cycle of action 1 it became 71.11%, in the first cycle of action 2 the value increased to 76.11%, and in the second cycle of action 3 increased again to 81.66%. Therefore, the key is that the use of finger puppet media can improve language skills in children aged 5-6 years at Pelangi Genyem Kindergarten, Jayapura Regency.
