Abstract:Elderly in the age of 60 or above is a natural process that can not be avoided where the life of man as a human being is limited by a rule of nature. As a result of the aging process, the blood vessels become stiff and affect the left ventricular wall reduce its elasticity, resulting in a progressive increase of blood pressure. To determine the effect of foot massage on reducing blood pressure in patients with intradialytic hypertension. Method: This study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Subjects were 32 hemodialyses (HD) patients randomly allocated into two groups: the control group and the intervention group. Foot massage was performed three times in intradialytic phase for 5-10 min in the first, second, and third HD hours. Measurement of blood pressure (BP) used portable sphygmomanometer. The measurement was conducted every hour. Results: There is a different effect of foot massage on systolic and diastole blood pressure between the control group and intervention group with p < 0.05. The difference in median value for systolic blood pressure between the two groups was 25 mmHg, and diastole was 10 mmHg. Conclusion: The foot massage is beneficial in controlling intradialytic hypertension and can be applied in the management of hemodialysis patients by nurses.

Chronic hyperglycemia in clients with diabetes mellitus will cause long-term damage, namely dysfunction or failure of organs such as eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels. Therefore, reflexology on the soles of the feet is become one of the complementary therapies that has no side effects. The research design used pre-experimental approach with a one group pretest-posttest design. The data analysis was divided into two, namely univariate analysis by frequency distribution and bivariate analysis by paired sample t-test. The results showed that there was a difference in the points of before and after treatment as much as 36.15 points. There was an effect between reflexology treatment before and after as much as 0.0001 < 0.05. Reflexology could respond the hypothalamus, activated the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal AXIS, and produced corticotropin releasing factor (CRF) hormone which stimulated the pancreas to increase insulin synthesis. One of the receptors on target cells, namely the glucose transporter (GLUT 4) which functioned to bring glucose into cells and accelerated the use of glucose which resulted in lower blood glucose levels. Reflexology can be done by oneself and has no side effects.
Background: Globally, the prevalence of hypertension, especially in older people, is relatively high and increasing annually. In addition to hypertension, many older people also experience anxiety. Interventions are needed to reduce blood pressure and overcome anxiety, one of which is foot massage. Objective: To determine the effect of foot massage on reducing blood pressure and anxiety in older people with hypertension. Method: This study was a one-group pre-test–post-test design with a time-series design for measuring blood pressure and assessing the degree of anxiety after foot massage intervention for 12 sessions. Thirty older people with hypertension and anxiety participated in this study. Results: A significant decrease in anxiety was observed after the 6th and 12th sessions of foot massage intervention ( P < 0.05). A significant decrease was observed in systolic blood pressure after the 12th intervention compared to baseline and 8th intervention ( P < 0.05). Conclusion: Foot massage intervention is effective in reducing blood pressure and anxiety in older people with hypertension.
