The purpose of this study is to determine the level of digital literacy related to history among students at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and the State University of Malang (UM). The recent decline in historical literacy among Indonesians has piqued historians' interest. In this context, the gap between technological potential and literacy problems may be advantageous for initiatives to enhance Indonesian young historical literacy. This research uses a quantitative-descriptive approach. The respondents were first-year and second-year history students at UPI and UM. The data collection technique used was a historical literacy test that has Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) levels 1-4. This study used descriptive data analysis and an independent sample t-test. The results of this study show that students from both universities have a low level of historical literacy, both in first-year and second-year students. This condition is a signal for teachers to start improving. Gadget technology is suggested as a solution to the problem because these students belong to Generation Z (a generation that is very aware of current events and technological advancements). The methodology of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) was selected because its principles are appropriate for fostering digital historical literacy. It is student-focused, context-based, collaborative, methodical and well-developed in the community.

Development of Mathematics Learning Media Assisted by the MathcityMap to Improve Students’ Critical Thinking Skills

The goal of this study was to create a new mathematics learning tool, leveraging the MathCityMap app and a contextual approach, to enhance critical thinking skills in trigonometry among students from the 10th grade of the SMA Laboratorium UPGRIS in the academic year 2021/2022. A random cluster sampling method was utilized to select participants. Data analysis revealed that both the test and control groups were evenly distributed and homogeneous. The t-test revealed no difference in average learning outcomes between the groups. Reviews from media and content specialists gave the learning tool validity scores of 85.2% and 83.6%, respectively, and the tool's appropriateness was rated as good with a score of 85.8%, which demonstrated its effectiveness. The N-Gain test score was 1.17, indicating successful achievement of the three learning effectiveness indicators. Increases of 0.61 and 0.52 were recorded for test and control groups, based on the N-Gain test, alongside satisfactory classical learning completeness. Data revealed that over 84.9% of students using the new math learning tool showed enhanced critical thinking capabilities.

Language learning is often viewed as a task focused on the acquisition of linguistic skills, disregarding the cultural context in which the language is spoken. This approach to language learning often leads to ineffective communication and misunderstandings that arise due to cultural differences. The article discusses the challenges that BIPA students in West Sumatra face when attempting to develop their communicative abilities and cross-cultural understanding. The primary objective of this article is to explore the relationship between language learning and cultural awareness, particularly within the framework of BIPA instruction. The article aims to highlight the importance of integrating cultural knowledge with language learning to develop effective communication skills in a foreign language. The authors also seek to demonstrate how the Minangkabau tradition can be used as a foundation for fostering intercultural understanding and communication among BIPA learners. They conducted research using two instructional and conditional features of BIPA learners' knowledge to explore the impact of learning Indonesian with a focus on culture and the ability to communicate across cultures. They also used a qualitative approach to highlight strategies and methods for fostering intercultural understanding and communication grounded in the Minangkabau tradition. The data for this study were collected by using interviews with BIPA educators and students in West Sumatra. The study demonstrated that integrating cultural knowledge with language learning is essential for the development of effective communication skills in a foreign language. The research shows that BIPA students who are exposed to cultural elements along with language instruction demonstrated a higher level of communicative ability and cross-cultural understanding. It also pictures out various strategies and methods for fostering intercultural understanding and communication grounded in the Minangkabau tradition. However, the authors also note the serious challenges that West Sumatra's BIPA educators and students face in gaining this crucial understanding. In conclusion, the article emphasizes the importance of integrating cultural knowledge with language learning to develop effective communication skills in a foreign language. The research also demonstrates the positive impact of cultural elements in language instruction, particularly within the framework of BIPA instruction. It provides valuable insights for BIPA educators and students who seek to enhance their communicative abilities and cross-cultural understanding.
