Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) and chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) are commonly cultivated by farmers, and in some cases, both crops are grown together in intercropping systems. The main pathogen infected cocoa is the Phytophthora sp. fungus, which causes fruit rot, stem cancer, and leaf blight, while Colletotrichum sp. causes anthracnose in chili pepper plants. The ability of endophytic bacteria to inhibit the growth of fungi and bacterial pathogens is well known. In this study, the biocontrol ability of endophytic bacteria against fungal pathogens was tested, and a biocontrol preliminary test was also observed by examining their potential inhibition on Chromobacterium violaceum called antiquorum sensing test. Endophytic bacteria were isolated from cocoa plants, while Phytophthora and Colletotrichum were isolated from cocoa and chili pepper plants that showed symptoms of fruit rot and anthracnose. A total of 34 endophytic bacterial isolates were successfully obtained, with 10 isolates from leaves (DK), 12 isolates from branches (RK), and 12 isolates from roots (KA) of cocoa plant ICCRI 4. Sixteen isolates showed quorum sensing ability, which AHL degradation index ranging from 0.44 – 1.56. Antagonistic tests showed that 11 out of 16 isolates had strong antibiosis against Phytophthora sp., with inhibition zones ranging from 0.6-1.35 cm. Meanwhile, 10 out of 16 isolates had strong antibiotics against Colletotrichum sp., with clear zones ranging from 0.6 – 1.1 cm. The three best endophytic bacterial isolates that had a combination of antiquorum sensing ability on C. violaceum and biocontrol against Phytophthora sp. and Colletotrichum sp. were RK 11, KA 1, and KA 8. Phytopthora spp is a pathogen that causes disease in cocoa plants that always attacks cocoa plants and affects the growth of cocoa plants and reduces the quantity and quality of cocoa beans is fruit rot, leaf blight, and stem cancer. This study was conducted to calculate the intensity of cocoa fruit damage due to cocoa fruit rot disease in Waesala Village, Huamual Belakang Sub-district, which is one of the sub-districts in West Seram Regency that cultivates many cocoa plants, namely Waesala, Buano, and Allang Asaude. The method used was survey method with systematic random sampling of 5 sample farmers from 3 villages in Huamual Belakang Subdistrict. The results showed that the average intensity of damage (IK) due to fruit rot disease in Huamual Belakang Subdistrict was 24% (mild category), with an average IK due to cocoa fruit rot in Waesala village of 21% (mild category), Buano 26% (moderate category), and Allang Asaude 29% (moderate category).

The main disease in cocoa pods is fruit rot caused by the fungi Phytophthora palmivora. The loss caused by P. palmivora is almost 90%. Currently, the control is still using synthetic fungicides which are harmful to humans and the environment. Therefore, the use of essential oils as fungicides is a safe control for the environment. This study aims to obtain a combination of nutmeg, cloves, and citronella that are effective as a botanical fungicide to control cocoa pod rot disease. The study was conducted at the Lampung State Polytechnic Plant Laboratory using a completely randomized design with 8 treatments which were repeated 5 times. The treatments tested were (1) negative control (water), (2) positive control (synthetic fungicide), (3) nutmeg oil, (4) clove oil, (5) citronella oil, (6) nutmeg + clove oil, (7) nutmeg oil + citronella, and (8) Clove and citronella oil. Essential oil testing on the growth of P. palmivora was carried out in vitro by inoculating agar pieces containing fungal culture on the surface of PDA containing essential oils. The results showed that all essential oil combination treatments were able to suppress the growth of the P. palmivora on PDA media. The combination of nutmeg oil and clove oil can suppress fungal growth by 77%, while the combination of nutmeg oil and citronella oil reaches 56.5% and the combination of clove oil and citronella oil reaches 27%. However, the single treatment that best suppressed the growth of P. palmivora was citronella oil, which was 32.8%.
