The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of red tomato extract (RTE) on intestinal microflora, fat digestibility, body fat (meat fat mass, abdominal fat), and performances of male tegal duck. One hundred birds of male tegal ducks of 3 weeks old (initial body weight was 507.74±31.86 g) were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 5 replications (5 birds each) in a completely randomized design. Dietary treatments were basal diet without RTE as a control (T0), basal diet added with 0.10% RTE (T1), basal diet added with 0.15% RTE (T2) and basal diet added with 0.20% RTE (T3). Parameters measured were lactic acid bacteria (LAB), coliform, intestinal pH, fat digestibility, meat fat mass, abdominal fat, blood concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), body weight gain (BWG), carcass weight, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Data were subjected to analysis of variance and continued to Duncan multiple range test when the treatment indicated significant (p<0.05) effect. Supplementation of RTE at higher level significanly (p<0.05) increased lactic acid bacteria (LAB), concentration of superoxide dismutase (SOD), carcass weight and body weight gain (BWG), while fat digestibility, meat fat mass, abdominal fat, malondialdehyde (MDA), intestinal pH, coliform counts and feed conversion ratio decreased (p<0.05), as compared to control. Feed consumption tended to decrease but not significant (p>0.05). In conclusion, feeding red tomato extract at a level of 0.20% (T3) can be categorized as effective in improving intestinal bacterial balance, body fat, increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD), an antioxidant enzyme, and performances of male tegal duck.

This study aims to evaluate the effects of combination of glucomannan and anthocyanin in feeds containing protein microparticles on fat digestibility and fat deposition in broiler chickens. The 216 healthy 7-day-old broiler chicks strain CP 707 was used with treatment of glucomannan from porang tuber extract and anthocyanins from purple sweet potato extract. The study was arranged by a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial pattern with treatment consisting of 2 factors (A and B). In A, there were 3 glucomannan treatments, A1 (0%), A2 (0.05%) and A3 (0.1%), while in B contained 3 anthocyanin treatments, B1 (0), B2 (0.07%) and B3 (0.14%) with 3 replications. The measure was fat digestibility, precentage of abdominal fat and meat fat mass. The data were analyzed for variance at the 5% level and continued with Duncan's double test at the 5% level. The results showed that the addition of a combination of glucomannan and anthocyanin in the feed containing protein microparticles had an interaction (P<0.05) on fat digestibility, meat fat mass and relative weight of abdominal fat in broiler chickens. The addition of a combination of 0.1% glucomannan and 0.14% anthocyanin (A3B3) in the feed containing microparticle protein was able to reduce fat digestibility, relative abdominal fat weight and meat fat mass in broiler chickens.

This study aims to analyze the effect of different vegetable oils on the basal ration of slaughter and carcass weight, carcass percentage, as well as abdominal fat, percentage in 9 weeks old of male ducks. It was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in an unidirectional pattern with 4 treatments and 6 replications with 6 ducks in each test. The treatments in this study include; P1: (96% basal ration + 4% palm oil); P2: (96% basal ration + 4% canola oil); P3: (96% basal ration + 4% coconut oil) and P4: (96% basal ration + 4% soybean oil). Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), meanwhile Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT) was applied when significant differences were indicated among treatments. The analysis showed that the treatments have no significant effects (P > 0.05) on the variables examined in this study. Base on the results that the addition of different types of vegetable oil in the basal ration failed to increase slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, as well as the abdominal fat percentage in male ducks.
