Pattern Analysis of Turkish Bread Wheat Landraces and Cultivars for Grain and Flour Quality

Abstract: This research was carried out to characterize both 200 pure lines selected from Turkish bread wheat landraces and 25 Turkish bread wheat cultivars based on 3 grain quality traits [thousand kernel weight (TKW), protein content (PC), Zeleny sedimentation test (ZSDS)] and 5 mixograph parameters. Univariate and Multivariate(clustering and ordination) techniques were used to investigate the diversity present among the pure lines and cultivars. Both cluster and ordination analyses suggested that there were ten group… Show more

“…Given the unpredictable environmental factors in the GE interaction studies, different models (GE, GE interaction, and AMMI), were developed to elucidate the effect of genotype, environment, or interaction; they are still used in breeding studies (Kendal, 2015;. In addition, the GT biplot technique has been used for a long time by many researchers to understand the effect of genotype and environment on the relationships between agronomic, physiological and quality characters, and yield (Yan and Tinker, 2006;Kendal and Dogan, 2015;Akcura et al, 2016;Oral et al, 2018). The GT biplot is used to compare varieties based on multiple traits and to define them based on these traits.…”

“…This is in agreement with Bardsley et al [39], who explained that the landrace Kirik is retained in Northeast Anatolia villages primarily because the baking qualities in the flour are appropriate for the local bread, lavash. Further studies are necessary to determine the grain quality components and properties that led to this preference, something that has already started in that country [40]. In other cases, such as the bread named "Pane Nero di Castelvetrano" from Sicily (Italy), the association between its end-use quality and the use of a specific landrace to elaborate it has been established [41].…”

“…A two hundred pure-line selected from Turkish wheat landraces which stored Turkish National Gen-Bank used as experimental material in this research. While selecting research materials, care was taken to include the provinces with the greatest diversity in wheat landraces and to include material from every province in which wheat landraces were grown (Akcura, 2006). Information about the origins of pure lines and sampling locations were provided in Fig.…”

“…Bread wheat landraces grown in Turkey exhibit great variation. Gen-Banks were established to preserve this diversity and several wheat cultivars have been collected and preserved for years (Akcura et al ., 2016).…”
