Patient‐reported effect in patients receiving implant or tooth‐supported fixed prosthesis

Abstract: Objectives To compare the patient‐reported effect of treatment with implant‐supported fixed prosthesis (ISFP) and fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) in patients with a small number of tooth losses to replace. Methods From a population of 155 patients receiving either ISFP or FDP, 68 patients were matched in pairs based on gender, number of teeth replaced, zone of replacement, age and number of remaining teeth. The patient‐reported effect was prospectively obtained by measuring change in the short‐form oral health i… Show more

“…It is not a new observation and in accordance with other publications, that patient satisfaction is reported high after prosthetic rehabilitation (Ozhayat & Gotfredsen, 2012, 2019, 2020). The previous assumption that immediate or early loading would satisfy the patient more than delayed loading was not general.…”

“…Although occlusal force was stated to be similar between those who are dentate and restored with implant supported prostheses, [98][99][100] comparison of patient reported outcomes of tooth supported versus implant supported prostheses are not significantly different, as found in a cohort study of 155 subjects and validated by OHIP 14 (Fig 1). 101 The materials used for construction of implant supported prostheses can be demonstrated to receive impact differently. 102,103 For instance, acrylic resin veneered surfaces do dampen some of the impact in comparison to metal-ceramic direct transmission to peri-implant bone.…”

“…Several studies used OHIP-14 in Denmark. The majority [22][23][24] used the original English OHIP-14, whereas one study [25] reported using a translated Danish version (with no reference provided) and another study [26] reported the translation of the OHIP-49 into Danish, but without following the guidelines for translation and cross-cultural adaptation of questionnaires [27]. In the literature, there is neither a published nor a validated Danish version.…”
