“…More recently, the sequencing of the ends of Bacterial Artificial Chromosome (BAC) clones has provided a rich source of microsatellites Phillips et al, 2009). Microsatellites have been used extensively to examine the population structure of Atlantic salmon (e.g., King et al, 2001) as well as for assigning parentage and relatedness of individuals in a mixed family stock (Norris et al, 2000), which precludes the necessity of rearing families in individual tanks or using physical tags.
