Paratesticular Tumours

Abstract: SUMMARY One hundred and fourteen cases of paratesticular tumour are reviewed. The young patient with a rapidly growing tumour usually has a rhabdomyosarcoma, many of which have already metastasised at the time of presentation. Of the other malignant paratesticular tumours approximately 25 per cent, are manifestations of generalised malignant disease and are often metastases. The presence of a hydrocele in association with a paratesticular tumour is usually an indication that the tumour is malignant. In patient… Show more

“…Although fibrous pseudotumors are uncommon, they are reported to be the second most common benign paratesticular lesion after adenomatoid tumors [3,4]. Williams et al [5] reported a study of 114 paratesticular tumors and found only 7 cases (0.061%) of fibrous pseudotumor, 6 of which were resected by orchiectomy. Only 10% of these tumors were found in the epididymis and spermatic cord [3].…”

“…Sometimes nodules can also be palpated in the cord. Secondary hydrocele is rare [ 12], Presence of a hydrocele suggests a malignant process according to these authors but Mostofi [7] reported the presence of a secondary hydrocele in no less than 45% of his cases. Diagnosis on clinical examination alone may be suspected, but all other paratesticular and testicular tu mors have to be excluded before a definitive diagnosis can be established.…”

“…Any doubts as to the benign nature of the condition warrants an orchidectomy [2]. Williams and Banerjee [12] studied 114 cases in 1969 and came to the conclu sion that in patients between 40 and 60 years of age, with long-standing disease and without evidence of secondary hydrocele, local excision of the tumors is the treatment of choice. In other cases, radical orchidectomy is advisable.…”
