Parallel PWMs Based Fully Digital Transmitter with Wide Carrier Frequency Range

Abstract: The carrier-frequency (CF) and intermediate-frequency (IF) pulse-width modulators (PWMs) based on delay lines are proposed, where baseband signals are conveyed by both positions and pulse widths or densities of the carrier clock. By combining IF-PWM and precorrected CF-PWM, a fully digital transmitter with unit-delay autocalibration is implemented in 180 nm CMOS for high reconfiguration. The proposed architecture achieves wide CF range of 2 M–1 GHz, high power efficiency of 70%, and low error vector magnitude … Show more

“…By setting reasonable relations between the CF f C , IF f IF and BPF bandwidth B RF , following Eq. 2 [10], both IF aliasing or interference and CF harmonics are well suppressed by the external BPF with 6th-order transfer function, as shown in Fig. 1.…”

“…Detailed explanations of the IF-and CF-PWMs based on delay lines and multiplexers, can be referred in [3,10]. This work focuses on the proposed configurations to solve the core problems encountered in the existing designs, such as the envelope fidelity of CF PWM and the phase resolution of IF PWM.…”
