Panstrongylus diasi Pinto & Lent, 1946 (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae): first record in Mato Grosso, Brazil

Abstract: Panstrongylus diasi Pinto & Lent, 1946, previously known from throught the Brazilian center-west, is reported for the first time in Mato Grosso state, Brazil. We found 3 specimens, 1 of them from an urban area of Barra do Garças. The new record of P. diasi is important for the understanding of the epidemiology of Chagas disease, mainly because this species is found naturally infected with Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas, 1909). Studies on the ecology, biogeography, and vector-host/parasite interactions of P. diasi a… Show more

“…Thus, the presence of a green belt associated with the artificial light of these domicile holds might support and promote the dispersion of triatomines. Martins et al [ 29 ] reported that the proximity of Barra do Garças to PESA may facilitate human contact with triatomines, which are potential vectors of ChD, especially in PESA neighborhoods.…”

“…Barra do Garças has a different ecological context, given its proximity to the Parque Estadual da Serra Azul conservation unit facility (PESA abbreviation in Portuguese) [ 29 ]. PESA (15°49′15″ S 52°12′57″ W) has 11.002 ha, with several Brazilian Cerrado phytophysiognomies (e.g., gallery forests, semi-deciduous forests, typical cerrado, and predominantly rupestrian Cerrado) [ 30 ] (Additional file 2 : Fig.…”

“…Thus, the presence of a green belt associated to the arti cial light of these households might be supporting and promoting dispersion of the triatomines. Martins et al (2019) reported that Barra do Garças, Mato Grosso, has a different ecological context, given its proximity to PESA. This state park may facilitate human contact with wild triatomines, which are potential vectors of ChD, especially in PESA neighborhoods.…”

“…Another survey focused on ants in both forested and urban areas of Rondônia, Brazil resulted in 29 new state records (Santos-Silva et al 2016). Such studies can also be of medical importance, as another urban survey recently found a kissing bug known to transmit the parasite that causes Chagas disease in Barra do Garças, a Brazilian city (Martins et al 2018).…”
