Ozone Therapy in Patients with Burn Disease

Abstract: Objectives. Using of systemic ozone therapy connecting with antioxidants in early period of burn disease for detoxication and metabolic disorders correction is investigated. Materials and Methods. We used active preventive metabolic detoxication in early period of burn disease (5 th-15 th days after shock stage). It includes, besides complex infusion and transfusion therapy and classic pharmacological treatment, employment of antioxidants with succinic acid (reamberin, mexidol), systemic ozone therapy (intrave… Show more

“…This may indicate that the process is active. In addition, it should be emphasized that an acute thermal burn injury does not involve the inclusion of compensatory mechanisms, in particular, enzyme antioxidant systems 18,20,21,26,28 . This leads to a rapid depletion of their reserves during the conditions of intensification of free radical formation.…”

“…Oxidative stress is seen in blood plasma and red blood cells, accompanied by a pronounced depletion of enzyme antioxidant system reserve. The findings of the oxidative stress features may prove useful in determining a different approach to the correction of pathological conditions, such as burns and osteomyelitis 5,25,[28][29][30] .…”

“…Consisting of three oxygen atoms, Ozone has a strong bactericidal effect with its extremely strong oxidation nature and is widely applied in the medical field. 3 , 4 Bacterial activity in ozone has been investigated since the 19th century. Ozone has a powerful antibacterial impact; even a small amount of ozone can destroy bacteria.…”

“…Furthermore, ozone can be utilized to eliminate fungi or amoeba in a wound. 2 , 4 , 5 After disinfection, ozone can naturally decompose and restore into the oxygen molecular of two oxygen atoms, producing no residue and pollution, and avoids the resistance problem of antibiotics and the limitations of the use of conventional chemical disinfectants. At present, the clinical application forms of ozone mainly include gas, water and oil.…”
