This article presents a systematic study on creep design of epoxy bonded anchor system. First, a theoretical model for prediction of long-term performance of an anchor system is suggested assuming epoxy layer following Maxwell visco-elastic behavior, which is then validated through an ABAQUS numerical model. A close match between the ABAQUS result and the theoretical model has been reached. Next, a general-purpose methodology for estimating creep capacity of an adhesive bonded anchor system is suggested following AC58 and two creep capacity equations are reached for Model Dry Epoxy and Model Wet Epoxy bonded anchor systems. The derived creep capacity is then used to re-examine the Boston D Tunnel anchor design and a safe design is reached through the suggested method considering the anchor system's long-term creep performance. Last, the ABAQUS model is extended to include the effect of curing temperatures, which shows significant influences of curing temperature on the capacity of an epoxy bonded anchor system.

Thema des vorliegenden Artikels ist die Untersuchung von Versagensvorgängen an Verbundankern. Um die Tragfähigkeit von Verbundankern optimieren zu können, ist das Verständnis dieser Versagensvorgänge notwendig. In einzelnen Versuchen wurden Bestrebungen unternommen, die Versagensvorgänge von Verbundankern untersuchbar zu machen. Bisher ist der tatsächliche, lastabhängige Verlauf der Versagensvorgänge bei Verbundankern, insbesondere bei kombiniertem Versagen, noch nicht vollständig geklärt. Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist die experimentelle Untersuchung von Versagensvorgängen an einem Verbundanker bei steigender Zuglast. Da die kontinuierliche Analyse der realen Versagensvorgänge mit bisherigen Methoden nicht möglich ist, wird ein In‐Situ‐Versuchsmodell vorgestellt. Ergebnis der Untersuchung ist die lastabhängige Analyse der Versagensvorgänge von zwölf Verbundankern mit Vinylestermörtel. Die Analysen der Versagensvorgänge zeigen, dass 30 % der entstandenen Risse in den unteren 10 % der eingemörtelten Gewindestange entstehen. Die Rissentstehung beginnt dabei bereits bei 35 % der Auszugskraft und findet an den Zuschlagstoffen im Beton statt. Die entstehenden Risse wachsen bei weiterer Laststeigerung zu den Gewindeflanken des Verbundankers. Die hieraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse können die Auslegung von Verbundankern verbessern.

Modern construction industry is increasingly utilizing postinstalled adhesive anchors as an alternative to traditional mechanical anchors. Although the application of adhesive anchors under sustained load offers many advantages, the associated approval guidelines based on a power law extrapolation technique have a number of ambiguities and limitations, which are shortly reviewed in this paper and subjected to uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analyses. Some of the observations presented may be considered as specific to the available experimental database of sustained load test, while some recommendations are universal, as they relate to the underlying creep phenomena and robust measures in regression. It is further shown, how a regression based safety factor could be derived from an experimental database and a possibilistic set of plausible choices.
