Overexpression of IGFBP3 is associated with poor prognosis and tumor metastasis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract: Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 (IGFBP3) is an N-linked glycosylated, phosphorylated protein, which has been reported to regulate cancer progression and metastasis. However, the role of IGFBP3 in tumor metastasis remains under debate. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a highly metastatic head and neck cancer. And it fails to achieve the desired therapeutic efficacy in patients with metastasis, while the role of IGFBP3 in NPC is still unclear. In this study, we first used immunohistochemistry to ex… Show more

“…Accumulating researches indicated that IGFBP3 played an important role in regulating cell cycle and apoptosis in various cancers, including breast cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, OS, etcetera [ 41 44 ]. For example, IGFBP3 expression was increased in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and IGFBP3 was also associated with cell migration and adhesion [ 42 ]. In OS, IGFBP3 was up-regulated in OS and involved in cell proliferation and invasion of OS [ 38 ].…”

“…Previous studies have reported that IGFBP3 expression is increased in many tumors with metastasis, including lung cancer and oral cancer 35,36 . According to Bao et al 37 , upregulation of IGFBP3 promoted cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis in NPC, and IGFBP3 was significantly elevated in NPC and its expression level was correlated with TNM stage of patients. These results are consistent with our findings.…”
