Osteogenesis Improvement of Gelatin-Based Nanocomposite Scaffold by Loading Zoledronic Acid

Abstract: Bisphosphonates (BPs) such as Zoledronic acid (ZA) are a subset of synthetic small molecules, which are now marketed as the main drugs to stimulate the growth and differentiation of osteoblast cells, thereby increasing bone formation as well as preventing bone loss. Also, Halloysite Nanotubes (HNTs)-polymer composites have attracted a lot of attention due to their high surface-to-volume ratio, low density, and high hydrophilicity, and are easily dispersed in hydrophilic biopolymers. In addition, their ability … Show more

“…When human adipose stem cells were seeded on the prepared scaffolds, zoledronic acid increased the cell proliferation, showed a high viability rate as obtained with the MTT assay. This was associated with an increased osteogenic differentiation as demonstrated with an increase in alkaline phosphatase level and mineralization [ 42 ]. Our data are also in line with another study using nano hydroxyapatite/collagen scaffold to encapsulate Narigirin, a natural flavonoid.…”

“…15 The three-dimensional (3D) and porous structure of the scaffolds assist in the delivery of growth factors and nutrients to the cells in the system, and the transfer of waste material out of the system. 16,17 The amnion meets all the requirements of tissue engineering due to its 3D structure, stem cells, and growth factors (Figure 2). Besides amniotic scaffold, amniotic cellular components and amniotic growth factors and cytokines have been used in regenerative medicine such as tissue engineering and cell therapy.…”
