Organometallic-based antibacterial and antifungal compounds: transition metal complexes of 1,1′-diacetylferrocene-derived thiocarbohydrazone, carbohydrazone, thiosemicarbazone and semicarbazone

Abstract: Organometallic-based, 1,1'-diacetylferrocene-derived antibacterial and antifungal thiocarbohydrazone, carbohydrazone, thiosemicarbazone and semicarbazone have been prepared by condensing equimolar amount of 1,1'-diacetylferrocene with thiocarbohydrazide, carbohydrazide thiosemicarbazide and semicarbazide, respectively. These were used as ligands for the preparation of their cobalt (II), copper (II), nickel (II) and zinc (II) metal complexes. All the synthesized ligands and their complexes were characterized by… Show more

“…[9][10][11][12][13] Thus, they play an important role in revealing the preferred coordination geometries of metal complexes due to their preparative accessibility, diversity and structural variability. [14][15][16] These properties of Schiff bases and their complexes have resulted in wide applications in the biological field [17] Cu (II) complexes are known to be effective against rheumatoid arthritis and they also show anti-ulcer activity. [18] This is because gastrointestinal irritation often precludes treatment by other antiarthritic drugs.…”

“…The magnetic moment values of copper(II) complexes (2) and (10) recorded 1.91 and 2.01 B.M, which are consistent with the presence of one unpaired electron of copper(II) ions in a square planar environment [66][67][68]. The lower magnetic moment of complex (9) than the expected values reported for square planar copper complexes is related to spin-spin interactions between the copper ions [69].…”

“…The complexes were analysed for their cobalt content employing standard literature procedure [21] after destroying the organic matter first with aqua regia and then with concentrated sulphuric acid. Sulfur was estimated gravimetrically as BaSO 4 . Elemental analyses were carried out on a Elemental Vario EL III Carlo Erba 1108 analyzer.…”
