Organic Pollutants in Groundwater in the Former Airbase

Abstract: Oil derivatives are commonly used and they play a key role in the economy. They are used in many industries. Such big amounts of oil derivatives products generate vast quantity of pollution. Those pollutants can get into the ground and water beyond any control during catastrophes or due to inadequately managed waste and storage. The aim of the paper was to determine the level of oil derivatives pollution in the groundwater on the area of a former airbase, where between 1950 and 1990 the Soviet Army stationed. … Show more

“…In such conditions, the fish confront difficult conditions for hiking up and down the watercourse, and, in the event of inappropriate construction solutions, they can be significantly damaged or even killed after passing through the HP (Mueller et al 2017). However, other factors, such as river pollution, navigation and uncontrolled fishing also affect ichthyofauna (Benejam et al 2014;Rosik-Dulewska, Ciesielczuk & Krysiński 2012). Moreover, such a change in environmental conditions is not indifferent to other aspects that are not purely only environmental -for example, conditions for recreation or distribution of drinking water, which can be facilitated or impeded by changes in river continuity (Branche 2017).…”

“…Given the prevalence of petroleum use, we need to be aware of the consequences of environmental pollution due to petroleum products. Particularly dangerous are disasters occurring in land and sea transport [1,2] because they cause serious point and area pollution, which negatively affects not only the ecosystems, but also the supra-local economy [1]. Petroleum-origin products penetrate the soil and then directly to waters along with sewage and stormwater that wash out the surfaces of streets and roads.…”
