Oral rehabilitation with dental implants in patients with systemic sclerosis: A systematic review

Abstract: To assess the influence of systemic sclerosis (SSc) on the survival rate of dental implants in SSc patients receiving implant-supported treatments. Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Metaanalysis (PRISMA) Statement and the Cochrane Collaboration's guiding principles were followed during the study's execution. The data from three databases, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus, available until January 2023, were used to compile the material for our research. Only English-language pu… Show more

“…In patients with systemic sclerosis it was 97,7% after 37,5 months. In patients with pemphigus, and systemic lupus erythematosus it was 100% after 24 months [ 88 ] Thus, it appears that the autoimmune status had no discernible impact on the survival rate of dental implants, however, a comprehensive risk assessment is recommended before starting implant therapy [ 89 ].…”

“…When faced with substantial tissue defects, repairing the damage can be a complex task that often requires the utilization of biomaterials, 100,101 bone substitutes, and implants. 102,103 Tissue engineering is essential in expediting the evolution of components that facilitate the reconstruction of damaged or lost tissue. Numerous studies have reported that PBMT contributes to tissue regeneration by exerting biological modulatory effects on cell differentiation, improving the healing of fractures, regenerating periodontal tissue, promoting implant osseointegration, and facilitating bone reconstruction.…”

“…While bone remodeling is generally a regulated physiological process, imbalances between bone deposition and removal can occur. “…TCP and HA find widespread application in fields like orthopedics and dentistry. They are employed as coatings on metal implants 18 or in combination with other substances, earning the designation of “bioactive ceramics” because they stimulate osseointegration through specific biological responses 19 , 20 . Bioactive glass (BG) can also be incorporated into a polymeric matrix to create composite materials 21 .…”
