Optimization of machining parameters during Drilling by Taguchi based Design of Experiments and Validation by Neural Network

Abstract: Drilling is a hole making process on machine components at the time of assembly work, which are identify everywhere. In precise applications, quality and accuracy play a wide role. Nowadays’ industries suffer due to the cost incurred during deburring, especially in precise assemblies such as aerospace/aircraft body structures, marine works and automobile industries. Burrs produced during drilling causes dimensional errors, jamming of parts and misalignment. Therefore, deburring operation after drilling is ofte… Show more

“…It has been shown repeatedly that the primary burr formation can be significantly reduced by appropriately choosing tools and the machining conditions and parameters. Correctly understanding mechanisms and relationships allows the machining process to be optimized for the burr size criterion [ 6 , 7 , 14 , 15 , 16 ]. In the literature on the subject matter, there are attempts to minimize the burr formation by controlling the following factors: tool geometry and material, type and method of application of cutting fluids, process parameters (in case of drilling: cutting speed, feed rate), type of machined material or the sequence of operations [ 7 , 12 ].…”

“…The machined surface quality is determined, along many other factors, by some process variables, the most important being feed rate, rotational speed, and depth of cut. To investigate the influence of these variables on surface quality and moreover to optimize the cutting process, many modelling techniques and methods [6,7] are used, such as Taguchi method [8][9][10], analysis of variance (ANOVA) [1,11] or artificial neural networks (ANN) [5,12,13]. Using these methods and techniques, several studies investigating the correlation between process variables and output quality are available in the literature.…”
