Optimization of fermentation process of Cordyceps militaris and antitumor activities of polysaccharides in vitro

Abstract: The influence of medium composition and cultural conditions on simultaneous yield of mycelia, intracellular polysaccharide, adenosine, and mannitol by Cordyceps militaris CGMCC 2909 was investigated with desirability functions in this study. An optimization strategy based on the desirability function approach, together with response surface methodology (RSM) has been used to optimize medium composition, and the optimal medium was obtained via the desirability as follows: yeast extract 10.33 g/L, sucrose 27.24 … Show more

“…10 On the basis of the theory of the macromolecular polysaccharide appeared rstly in HPGPC chromatogram, it indicated that all samples were main containing macro A medium pH level has a seemingly signicant impact on cell membrane function, cell morphology and structure, as well as the uptake of various nutrients, and product biosynthesis in all the environmental factors. 34 As shown in Table 1, the highest macro M w polysaccharide of IPS reached 82.717% when the pH value of fermentation medium was 6.0, and the IPS production reached (95.47 AE 2.92 mg/100 mL) and was higher (10-20) mg/ 100 mL than other samples in the pH group. Additionally, the IPS cultured at pH 6.0 exhibited a higher inhibition ratio at about 60% in the S180 cells at a concentration of 400 mg mL À1 (Fig.…”

“…The Cordyceps species are known for its rich source of phytochemical constituents and their biological activities (Cui, 2014). It has been widely used as traditional food tonic and an analeptic for centuries, and its medicinal properties have attracted much attention (Yang, Jin, Ren, Lu, & Meng, 2014).…”

“…In addition to the metabolic profiles of small molecules, their polysaccharide contents also need to be taken into consideration. The polysaccharides of Cordyceps are considered to be one of the major pharmaceutical active components, possessing antitumor (Yang, Lu, Ren, Lu, & Meng, ), anti‐inflammation, antioxidant, antimetastasis, immunomodulation and hypolipidemic effects (Jing et al, ). Polysaccharides from seven species of natural and cultured C. militaris were investigated and compared using saccharide mapping by Shao‐Ping Li, indicating that the similarity of polysaccharides from cultured C. militaris to natural O. sinensis was relatively high (Wu et al, ).…”
