Optimization of CCGT power plant and performance analysis using MATLAB/Simulink with actual operational data

Abstract: In the Modern scenario, the naturally available resources for power generation are being depleted at an alarming rate; firstly due to wastage of power at consumer end, secondly due to inefficiency of various power system components. A Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) integrates two cycles- Brayton cycle (Gas Turbine) and Rankine cycle (Steam Turbine) with the objective of increasing overall plant efficiency. This is accomplished by utilising the exhaust of Gas Turbine through a waste-heat recovery boiler to r… Show more

“…Hot gas from the gas turbine flows through the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and generates steam, which is used to turn the steam turbine and then the electricity generated by the coupled generator 12 . Hence there are two generators, one fuelled by a gas turbine to generate two‐thirds of the power generation plant and the other powered by a steam turbine to produce one‐third of the electricity generation plant 13 . The transfer function model of CCGT plant comprises of three types of controllers that is, (a) secondary or supplementary Controller, this counteracts quickly as the frequency fluctuates with its real value and fuel flow change ensures load generation consistency, (b) Air‐flow Controller, it manages the airflow to the compressor entrance through the inlet guide vane, (c) Temperature Controller, It maintains exhaust temperature at reference temperature level by controlling fuel flow.…”

“…Conspicuously, due to the diminution in investment cost 9 and augmentation in efficiency that is, more than 60%, several researchers have focused on the small‐signal analysis of combined cycle gas turbine plants, which is much better than some renewable sources. A few research works cover the CCGT plant studies 9‐14 . The mathematical model of the CCGT plant was discovered at the early phases of gas turbine development 10 .…”

“…This value is lower than its value in the traditional steam turbine plant due to the fact that the increase of the final moisture content in the off-design conditions is because the temperature at the vapor turbine inlet depends on the low gas temperature in the outlet a Corresponding author : anton@tpu.ru of gas turbine and because there is no reheating for the steam this determine the rang of the initial pressure values [6]. The mathematical model for the combined plant thermal cycle depends on the balance principle and on the thermodynamical parameters of the working bodies for the working fluids (the gasmixture of air and combustion products -the water and the water vapor) [6,7]. The steam expansion process in the turbine was studied taking in consideration the dependence of the local thermal efficiency on the flow rate ignoring the effect of the heat loss on the humidity and the output speed.…”

“…According to the aforementioned operational modes, the main relations between different steam turbine parameters were defined and the mathematical model of the CCGT operating at nominal load was built. In order to develop a model and analyse the results, the references [3], [5], [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] were studied and used. The information on water and steam properties was provided by the references [17][18][19].…”
